First CS map :o

Hey,

I’ve started working on my very first CS map about 2 days ago and I just want you to let me know what you think about it. I also need ideas because the map looks really empty for now. It’s a fy_ map.

Looks good, mate! Although, the open space isn’t great for gameplay (I tend to have a problem with that as well). If you’re just now making maps, I would highly suggest trying to do ‘orange mapping,’ or whatever the equivalent is for goldsrc. Then let your architectural creativity flow :smiley:

I’ve always wanted to try out mapping but I don’t know how. I know this isn’t related to your map but can you tell me what software you are using?

I think you can really do someting good with this map. Let your imagination go berserk! :smiley:

^I’m using Hammer. I’m sure you can find mapping tutorials out there.

What’s definitely required is obviously cover at the exits of the spawn so the players can spread out trough the map. For the rest: areas that are sniper spots, very enclosed areas, and such varieties can make it a map with a lot of possibilities.

If you have a Source game that comes with the SDK click on your ‘tools’ tab in Steam. Click on ‘source sdk’ and let it download / install. then open it up. then select which mod you’re making a map for, and then click on ‘hammer.’ have at it.

You could add some interesting cover to the center of the map by creating some big generators, boilers, or turbines in the center, which is a welcome departure from the standard stacks of crates which fill most CS maps. I would also add some detail to the ceiling - trusses and beams, lights, windows/skylights, etc - adding large detail like this should help to fill in the map greatly. I would also frame the giant wall of glass above the spawn rooms on each side with some trims since you rarely see giant flat planes of glass like that in real-life.

For a first map this great 8.5/10

Following RabidMonkey’s advice, I’m currently trying to frame the 2 giant walls of glass above the spawn rooms on each side with trims. The problem is I don’t know how to do that. :frowning: I’m trying to frame them in this way. Does anyone know how to do that?

I believe that’s a texture, if I’m not mistaken.

Yeah I knew that. The thing is, it looks like it’s inlaid in the glass texture, and not that it is a different block with a different texture.

EDIT: ^ROFL I didn’t even think about editing the texture.

I’ve now added trims and it looks 10x better.
