Features that didn't make the cut

Well, hopefully this is the right section. Was there anything previewed/showcased/mentioned before release that isn’t present in the game or has been changed since first sight? I’m not talking about minor things, but something important. Things like level design and such logically change during the development process, so that’s obvious, but in gaming, some planned features have to be cut for any reason sometimes, any example with BM?

Co-Op. Wouldn’t this have fit better in the Got a Question thread?

Quite possibly, but it’s not like the devs are answering questions these days, and that one isn’t for discussion between posters, but a “poster asks, a dev answers” thread, so I do think at least. And yes, right; co-op.

The headcrab latch thing.

And Xen.

the m4 viewmodel and worldmodel

That’s not really a feature, weapon skins and such are irrelevant, something affecting the game directly is a different story tho.

A remake of Half-Life 1.

If you are referring to Xen then it’s apparently being worked on, unless it’s another of your anti-BM comments.

To be fair, I liked BM a lot more on my replay. But there IS still no Xen. :freeman:

Yes, but its not something that’s been cut, which is what Dotard is asking for.

Some NPC’s in AM.

Even though that’s not a deal breaker, more variants (actual new models instead of re-textures) would greatly improve the immersion. The models from the trailer were (if I remember a dev’s statement correctly) cut before the face-generator came into play. It would be nice if they weren’t lost and could return later or something.

leeches

Some of the face generator variations were messed up by that tool the devs used to clean up and reduce the size of BM, along with things like VOX and such.

Also office workers were cut:

Any explanation as of why?

Leeches. Not as enemies but harmless NPCs that swim around. Something that makes you go “egh” whenever you are in the water.

Since leeches are pretty much a part of Half-Life canon, their absence is weird indeed.

AI cockroaches.

Also to be fair, the mod is called Black Mesa, and that’s where it all takes place. Xen isn’t in the BMRF, so it’s not in Black Mesa Source.

The fans from OC and WGH were removed. They serve as puzzles in HL.

Also the Surface Tension transition of course.

I’m pretty sure they are there.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
