You kidding? Tony Jaa is the shit. (Directed at Mont_Blanc)

Talking about Master chief vid.

Oh. Lawl.

Ong Bak is pretty cool, but the Jackie Chan style camp of his movies kinda throw me off.

The legend, the master, Bruce Lee.

Ong Bak is too flashy and unrealistic with its fight scenes. Most of those moves would never work against a real opponent.

The Protector, on the other hand, is amazing to watch. The fights are much more realistic and enjoyable for me. I don’t pick them apart like I would a Jon Woo gun flick (worst action director ever if you ask me).

I also love Jacki Chan. The rooftop fight in Who Am I is stunning.

Bruce Lee was an amazing martial artist, one of the best ever (if not the best ever), but he wasn’t very good at making movie fight scenes. He got better as he went along, and I am sure that if he had another ten years to make movies I wouldn’t be saying this, but his first few movies weren’t that good. His stuntman opponents were poor martial artists and it showed on film. His best work on film was for Game of Death. Not the movie that was released though, it was cut to the point of near worthlessness. Watch the one documentary that has the uncut footage. It’s 18 minutes of pure brilliance.

I refuse to watch Game of Death because that’s the one he died shooting. :’(

Anyone remember that movie with Tony Jaa where he grew up with an elephant, and at he end he fights with like 50 dudes one at the time?

The Protector, here in the states (I mentioned it just before  ).
Tom Yum Goon (spicy turtle soup?) or some such in foreign markets.

Okay thanks!

What’s amazing is that I watched the ‘making of’ documentary on the DVD, and not once during this scene did they mention how they managed to make all that bone-breaking. I think they might have just had about 50 unfortunate extras who they broke the shit out of! It is Thai, after all. :fffuuu:

Might I add, any scene with Jackie Chan, cronies, and props in the environment. Especially in his older films, the use of props, and his choreography, is masterful
.

Actually he died while doing the voice overs for Enter the Dragon.

@TheeGoatPig

As far as Bruce’s fight scene choreography goes, he was pretty much the pioneer of martial arts films, no doubt it’s not going to look so sophisticated as movies we see nowadays, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a work of art in that regard if you can get past the fantastical floaty running of martial arts fable (it was based on a series of books written in the 1800’s).

I didn’t mean any disrespect to Chan, he’s an amazing martial artist and stuntman, but the extreme campiness of his films just throws me off. It’s like my distaste of Joss Whedon productions.

Really? I read he died while shooting Game of Death and that’s the reason it sucks so much: Because they had to use a double to finish the movie, and only cut to his face occasionally.

Oh, I realize that. His influence runs far and wide through movie making and a lot of other things throughout the world. I don’t blame him for that. Like I said before, if he had another ten years, I’m sure it would have been brillaint as well.

I didn’t know anyone put down Chan?

He shot 18 usable minutes of fight scenes for Game of Death prior to being called away to work on Enter the Dragon. After filming was finished he dies. Then, two years later, someone bought the rights to Game of Death, finished up the movie with two lookalikes, and footage from his actual funeral in Hong Kong, butchered the hell out of the footage he had filmed, and released his worst movie ever.

The documentary with the uncut fight scenes is where it is at. Watch it if you can find it on the net.

Oh! Thanks!

Here is that first part of what I was talking about. If I find the second part I will link it as well.
