but seriously my point is that if you still think creationism is right you should be forcibly sterilized.
^ this is what I am to ‘debate’ with?
(i dont actually think that)
i do think parents shouldn’t be allowed to indoctrinate their children with any forms of religious beliefs until they’re old enough to judge it for themselves though
why that is simply called liberalism. isnt it?
no.
- Do not EVER try to convince people of your belief or way of life!
There must be a level of diversity in religeous theory, just as much as in science and culture to ensure success of our civilisation.
- I’m curious. What are you atheists or agnostics screaming while you are getting laid
?
Certainly not “Oh god !”. That would make god a subjective linguistic reality, and thus culturally real.
oh god not this diversity is necessary for continued health of the whole horseshit again
That’s only true when the thing in question is both beneficial and subject to being singled out.* Genes, some are Good for individuals of a Species.
(All of the Same gene may share the same fatal Defect.)
- Opinions, are Good for Democratic governments.
(All of the Same opinion might make the same fatal Errors in Judgment.) - Religions, None are good for Anybody of sound mind.
(Furthermore, All of the Same religion (or lack thereof) would simply lessen Religious Violence.)
Do the religious actually think of their god while having an orgasm? Isn’t that a little bit insulting to it?
- So what do you suggest instead of diversity of belief/non-belief? We all do it your ONE way, because you are “right”? Because you advocate a palpable materialism, and the technological revolution can be seen everywhere and thus beliefs that made our society what it is today over a time span of several thousand years should be discarded just because YOU or any other group do not feel the necessity to keep them or can not identify with them? Good thing you are not as self-centered as fundamental christians.
If most people will not feel the necessity to be religious, they will not be religious. Simple, is it not? They do not need you or any other group to change their way of life, just as atheists did not need religious people forcing them into church in the middle ages. You CAN believe in God and see and UNDERSTAND science as the laws of his creation. It never was a contradiction and never will be.
But your dilemma or problem is: you take science as your new god (witch is fine by me and I think important for mankind) because you like the way it makes everything more comfortable in the material world (basically like god makes everything more comfortable for religious people metaphysically). Of course you can not see god like religious people can see the effects of science, thus you are naturally restricted to one “belief”.
- I do not think about God while making love. I was trying to show you how religion for instance influenced language. And that this language is being equally used by atheists and religious people. Trust me I’ve heard a good deal of “atheistettes” scream “Oh God”. As Bill Hicks said: " Why are they not screaming: “Chemical chance!”
I love Kent Hovind
Young earth creationism. Not even the most radical Jewish orthodox believers think the earth is less than 10 000 years old. Makes me wonder why some christians do…
BrAndi, you deserve a fucking medal for saying this
Everyone obviously can and should make people think about their decisions, about the problems that exist, about the mistakes they are committing and so on. However, never ever try to convince people that you are right - because that will convince that you are selfish and intolerant instead. Don’t ever say “Look how I am a good person, how I make the right choices in life” or “I am so smart because I believe in science”. Instead, make people think, by saying, for instance “Are you sure this is the right decision?” or “You are wrong because of this, this and that.” But don’t insist too much on the same subject, don’t force and don’t let the discussion become a flame war, instead change the subject or end the discussion and let time do its work.
We tend to believe we need to prove we are right on everything. But that is completely wrong.
That would take the fun out of debating though.
Oh god! You so funny that I am going to cry right now.
The god of the gaps argument is backing yourself into a corner. As finite creatures we will never know EVERYTHING, but at some point when we have gathered mountains of evidence against creationism, it’s going to come off sounding desperate an deluded. Since we have mountains of evidence that creationism in the christian sense of the word is not accurate, how much use is the idea in modern society? The only definition of creationism that is still valid is the possibility ( though unsupportable possibility ) that a god initiated the expansion of the universe, and that is a useless definition of creationism as it changes nothing and advances nothing.
So, if I were to say something like “Holy shit,” does that mean I think that excrement is a sacrament?
It doesn’t, and, if I understand it correctly, that is exactly his point. I won’t go any further because I don’t think this discussion will come up with anything good.
BrAndi was telling how religion influenced people’s language, true, but that is a terrible example of how religion may influence society in a positive way. The only positive thing that I can think that religion bring to society is to bring people together for a good purpose (for instance take care of poor people or drug addicts), but a common ideal and good will is also able to bring people together as well.
EDIT:
Well, so they say, but is it really true? Because lots and lots of evidence of evolution exist, but, when a creationist look at one of those evidences, he does not consider the possibility that he is wrong for more than a microsecond. That is, they hear although don’t listen the argument because they “know” it is wrong anyway.
so if i scream OH UNICORNS, its logical to start a religion around unicorns?
id follow it tbh
the only sensible thing to praise is the sun
Or Joe Pesci.
With enough of hash, anyone would.
