Evolution vs Creation

I want to hear professor Oak’s opinion on this…

It’s telekinesis dude

Why am I laughing?

Then how come there are people capable of remembering tens of thousands of books and even quoting them? A man, whose story was told in a movie Rainman remembered over 10k books including phonebooks. He could actually tell you a phone number of a certain person if you asked him (though his comunication with the “outside world” is rather poor).

If we all use 100% of our brain then why can’t we learn to do that?

It’s changing, not adapting. Actually it more likely leeds to our extinction which is rather the opposite intention of evolution…

Kim Peek was a savant with eidetic memory and congenital brain defects. He wasn’t using more of it than we are, he used it in a different manner. He probably had a disorder relating to the X chromosome. Brain scans show brain activity in every area of the brain.

Yaro… the fact that we have an abundance shows it is random… Why would GOD create something so un-perfect? Besides, we use 100 percent of our brains, only a small percentage of any one time. It has to do with available energy use for the brain. 20% of all the oxygen and available food energy goes into running your brain. - That is part of why we need to sleep for long. In terms of evoultion, it was costly for us to sleep so long, but it is needed in order for our brains to work… there are alway trade offs… always.

The brain wires itself. In terms of memory storage, we have 100 trillion neurones. (According to Medena - leading brain researcher) When you are born, your brain starts creating brain cells. (Way more than we need) As we go through various stages of development, we prune some of those connection out. We also go through stages, where the brain will create more.

We actually have a few different brain structures (As in based on previous models of critter development happening in our heads as it were - in terms of improved design - why do ALL creatures have the same sort fo brain structures if we are not decended from a common ancestor?

That doesn’t mean we’re no using all our capabilities dude. It means some peoploe have bigger brain capabilities than others.

People’s brains are different. The Rain Man was using 100% of his brain just like everyone else. His 100% was different than my 100% though.

Actually, it’s adapting to the environment which is the definition of evolution. There is no “intention of evolution”. Sometimes the process of adaptation (evolution) leads to extinction if the environment changes radically enough that the species cannot quickly adapt to it.

It’s called autism. It’s a disease.

Evolution is change. It has no intention, it just happens.

Edit: Why am I so fucking slow at posting :meh:

Grasshoppah, you must learn the ways of the home row keys and be quick on the refresh if you evah want to learn the art of Ninja Kung Fu. Hai!

LOL

What about Daniel Tammet? He’s able to exist on he’s own, he talks to people and still can remember and manipulate MASSIVE amounts of data. Is he twisted/defected too?

Well, he didn’t :].

Did not understand a thing from that ;P.

It’s kind of hard to believe that these capabilites spread from less-inleligent to cases that literally make us look like monkeys…

Tammet is an autistic savant too. But, I guess it depends on how you define “twisted/defective”.

Why is it so hard to believe? (Oh, and you probably wanted the word “figuratively”, not “literally”.)

Each human has a different kind of brain. Each us use 100% of our individual brains. But you can’t compare one person’s brain to another.

I don’t like the idea that everyone who has worse/better brain capibilities is either sick or distorted. Scientists say our brain can contain a lot of informations (and I mean A LOT). Then why do we forget all we learned over the years (not when you’re getting old and your neurons are degenerating/dying, more like a few years after graduating or, in many cases, a few days after a test ;P).

Yes, he’s also a savant. His autism is mild but savant syndrome does stem from developmental disorders such as autism or mental retardation, so yes, he is in a way defected.

riiight… a little late, but i’ll just go ahead and throw in my 2 cents here.

Science is cold, hard fact. Christianity is a retarded, heavily flawed theory that many people believe in, either due to being raised as such, lack of evidence proving otherwise provided, or just general stupidity.

I myself, at the age of 13, am an atheist, and I decided I would be years ago. My entire immediate family are atheists, and therefore, was raised as such. I never really thought about it until a few years ago,(like I said), where after weeks of deciding and viewing/reading arguments for both points of view, I thought it the only logical viewpoint.

I am a tad prejudice towards Christians as being a bit thick, so I apologize if i offend anyone in reply to an argument/arguments I’m likely about to have.

Plus, whenever confronted with scientific evidence, most Christians either ignore it or come up with some bogus excuse. (e.g. fossils. ‘‘God just put those there to test our faith!’’. LOL.

what I’m trying to say is… PLEASE, just TRY to prove science wrong. just try. :3

I know that some people have so much faith in god that they think no amount of proof could prove god to be non-existent, and if this is the case for you, I ask you… why do you have so much faith in a being that doesn’t definitely exist, and who’s religion is so flawed?

It’s not that we’ve forgotten, it’s that we don’t know how to access it. If we were reintroduced to it again, the pathways to that memory will be rejoined and you should remember what you learned and you don’t have to learn it all over again.

Otherwise, memories are just chemical imprints and can degrade over time.

Also, @Neon Impulse, I’ve been an atheist for longer than you’ve been alive. So there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Because his brain usage/brain itself is superior than ours so he has to be defected, right?

No, because he was born with a disorder that causes his brain to function abnormally, he is defected.

You’re the one that brought up the term “defected”. And his brain is not superior to ours. It’s just different.
