Escape from Black Mesa - Single Player Mod

Note: Everything below is super WIP and subject to change.

Okay, so I’ve been working on this for a few weeks now, certain other people have already seen some of the progress, and I thought I would just go ahead an post it up here so I can post updates for the public to see on a regular basis.

This mod is a single player mod that gives you, the players, a whole new story to play through and a chance to see areas of the Black Mesa Research Facility that have never been seen before.

Story So Far…
You are Dr. Walter Bennett, a biophysicist in the Advanced Biological Research Lab. You wake to your alarm in your dormitory after having a strange dream about a man in a suit. After exploring the dormitories and greeting your colleagues, you board the tram to the research labs. On your way, however, there is a deep rumble from somewhere in the facility, suddenly strange yet familiar creatures begin appearing out of thin air all around you, the ceiling crumbles taking you inside the tram with it. After miraculously surviving the fall you must now find an HEV suit and escape the Black Mesa Research Facility or die.

Major Obstacles to Overcome

 • Voices and Choreography - I’m not anywhere near a stage where this is important yet, but it will be a must in the future.

Screenshots are of a super pre-alpha stage, everything is subject to change.

Now to be realistic, this will probably take me a long time to complete. There’s no guarantees that I will complete this since I’m just doing this in my spare time, and if it is completed I can’t guarantee it will be good. So set sail for disappointment!

As a last note: If anyone has experience prop modelling for Source and you want to help, send me a PM with some examples.

Cool look forward to updates

Looks pretty good so far!
Did you model the bed yourself, or did you get it from somewhere? I’m not sure if it’s the lighting, UV, or smoothing, but something looks a little off on the seams.
Other than that I can’t think of much feedback, aside from the rotating door - I hope the HL2 model is a placeholder, because it’s really jarring and out of place with the rest of the frame.

The bed was taken from a free model resource, it placeholder until I can get a prop modeler. The door is brush based with a texture I created myself, but at the time the frame was also wood. Also placeholder. Just assume anything you see is placeholder :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks really good so far. I look forward to playing through your mod.

Looking pretty amazing! Tracking this, looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hawtness is hawt. Good luck!

Lookin’ good, man! I’ve always wanted to see a BM interpretation of the dorms. It’s a almost untouched environment with some interesting gameplay possibilities.

The bed looks fine imo. If you can get existing models freely which suit your purposes, I’d say go for it, no need to make everything from scratch.

Mod looks and sounds promising (I’m terrible at feedback)!

That looks promising, I guess I’ll keep an eye on your project from now on. Apart from the extra maps there hasn’t been a lot of mods for Black Mesa so I’m interested in what will come next.

Also nice design for the Sector E tram station. Is that the one which can be accessed in the tunnel between the advanced labs and the dam?

Looks great so far.

Guess I’ll keep an eye out.

It can at least be pretty, so you’ve got that going for you. :jizz:

And like said earlier, if u can use free models as beautiful as the bed, just go for it, no need to remake them

Take heed to the good advices
This looks promising!

This looks good! I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone! I’m pretty excited to get this going.

I have to admit, I wasn’t aware of any Sector E tram stations already being referenced. But we’ll go ahead and say yes?

If you decide to do so, then yes.

I’ll just add, it was pretty easy to miss that station at the beginning of Surface Tension, being an original addition by the Black Mesa devs. I guess they wanted to stick with the transit system map introduced in Blue Shift, which has a station serving the advanced labs/biodome complex atop Sector E. However, Sector E was easily the largest part of the facility with Mat. Trans., so placing a station in a new area within this location won’t be much of a bother. Most of all, just do what you want first.

@Deathmonkey7
You have done a good job what you have worked on my son.lol

No really you have done a good job.

Either way, I don’t think it will have any bearing on the story or layout. So I’ll just let anyone who plays it decide if they want it to be said station or not. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tip: One thing I’m noticing about the last shot is that the white lines near the end of the platform are stretched. If you disable Texture Lock and then resize the overlay, it won’t stretch, and will instead loop seamlessly (assuming the texture is seamless of course, which that particular line is).
