True, but I think the amount of destruction in L4D and L4D2 is a bit too much for something in HL. Something similar, maybe.
Just some higher quality textures and some new water effects, to make everyone happy
My main concern would be to eliminate map loading entirely. Nothing hinders immersion nearly as much as that.
Also, I would love to see real-time particle simulation. I’ve seen some remarkable proof-of-concepts where every type of object (wood, metal, rubber, etc.) has its own realistic physics properties, and reacts to the player’s actions accordingly. For example, shooting a piece of wood with a pistol makes it splinter just as it wood in real life, in the place you shot it.
Although, TBH, I’m not expecting anything ground-breaking or revolutionary in EP3. I’m hoping for a great, LONG story. When it comes to developments in realism, graphics, physics, etc. I’m eagerly awaiting Crysis 2.
I want to see DMM or Fluid Particle Simulations.

Map loading times adds to the Valve experience for me, if they are completely removed them it would only make Half Life remind me of Halo…
That’s retarded. Why would anyone in their right mind want loading time? I should add you to the list for that.
If you are the sort of person who believes loading times add to the quality of a game, well, more power to you, man. Unfortunately, I don’t think many people are gonna agree with you.
yeah, that’s one part of the “valve experience” I could do without.
Well I don’t know much about making maps in Source but I assume there are still a lot of things compiled in the map so I geuss you’ll have to stick to the loading interruptions.
It would be great if they could reduce the load times a bit. I know the consoles make use of streaming but if that means the DVD has to be spinning all the time I’d rather put up with some load times
I was about to post that
But yeah, he’s right. The Water is too damn far fetched though… .and impossible because Valve already has the Havok license. (they can’t pull two direct competitors together, can they?)
I’d want everything in that vdeo plus tesselation and object based motion blur.
Give us L4D2 gore.
Yeah, zombie dismemberment would be awesome!
Euphoria physics.
Why not? It’s not going to happen, but that doesn’t mean Valve couldn’t buy it. Business is business. Ford will still sell me a car if I drive a Honda.
The Source engine uses a heavily modified Havok 2 (2.5) physics engine, maybe they could just replace it with a newer version of Havok. They could then modify it even further.
They have it licensed, they can do what they want.
EDIT: Ninja’d.
Well that wasn’t a simulation rally. That was probably hand animated.
They could’ve gotten away with an animated texture inside the cup… or just a cylinder that gets taller inside the botton cup (like l4d’s molotov)
