Apologies if this has been asked a zillion times, but search wasn’t helpful or I used wrong terms…
How do you enable the developer console?
I only have the SDK and mod installed, don’t have HL or HL2 installed.

How do you enable the developer console?

run black mesa
go to options->keyboard->advanced and tick “Enable developer console”
then press ~
alternatively, I could tell you the console command to enable the console (teehee)
Alternatively, left click the mod, click Properties, and add “-console” to the launch options.
Does not work without also enabling it in-game.
I use it without enabling it, I think. Well, no matter.
OK, that worked, thanks. Now I can open the console.
But… why doesn’t god mode work? I typed:
god
in dev console as the help text said. Didn’t help, lol. Died by a head-crab after Eli let me out of that room.
You need to write sv_cheats 1 to enable cheats and sv_cheats 0 to disable them. If you want more console codes, here. Google is your friend.
Oh man, that rang a VERY old bell. Thanks again.
You can also change the key used for developer console in the Keyboard settings. Useful for us without a US layout keyboard (lacking the ` key).
So for some reason, when I entered “Surface Tension” I lost the Tau Cannon. Anybody know what the console command is to get it back?
I’m guessing its “give weapon_???”. “give weapon_taucannon” didn’t work.
EDIT: Never mind - I figured it out. It’s “give weapon_tau”.
It was “give weapon_gauss” in HL1 if I recall correctly, not sure if it will work in BM.
Better yet add -dev -console then you will see everything!
I did the above, but pressing ~ (SHIFT + #) doesn’t open the console.
Any suggestions?
SHIFT + #? What kind of keyboard do you have?
You should just be pressing the key to the left of 1 in your keypad. Also, if you open the game and go to your Keyboard options, you can assign a custom key to open the console.
Thanks Crypt.
On my keyboard that is the ‘`’, ‘¬’, and ‘¦’ key!
Thanks again,
