Honestly, I’m curious why you guys haven’t chosen to do an HD remodel of this guy from classic half life into Black Mesa. Every time I saw this head I burst out laughing at how ridiculous it looked, and it made the game even better than it was. Can you guys please consider adding this head to one of your content updates? And if you do, please dont make it look like the one from the HD pack, it totally ruined the stache
It might be a little difficult.
As far as I can tell, like with most Source games, Black Mesa’s NPCs all have their heads modeled after real people. So unless we find Mr. Einstein’s lookalike, it wouldn’t be easy.
Can’t be that hard, all you’d need to do is put on a white wig and a ridiculous white mustache like that and you’re good to go
HL2’s models are based off of real people, but that was only for reference - technically speaking, an actual person isn’t required.
Also, most of Black Mesa’s NPCs are based off a single base head with face flexors for deformation - similar to the way character creation in Mass Effect or The Elder Scrolls is handled. They were maybe influenced by real people, but each head itself by definition cannot be ‘modeled’ after a real person, because it’s a generic base mesh with modifications.
That being said, it would be child’s play for a character artist to take the source files for the scientist (either from the team files or decompiling one of the existing models), make a unique Einstein head variation using the HL1 model, concept art, or someone who looks similar to the model as reference, and assign it to a specific named scientist NPC using the character manifest file.
