Earliest Known Primate Ancestor a Spry 47 Million Years Old

Norwegian scientists have found what seems to be the missing link in the human evolution. Pretty cool, I guess.

It’s in norwegian, so you wont understand much unless you’re Norwegian :stuck_out_tongue:
A 47 million years old monkey. You gotta love it.

English article

Interesting counterpoint to the religion thread.

very cool skeleton, nice to see that the science about humans makes progress

Dammit, does this mean I need to get my “Evolution of Man” t-shirts redone?

Excerpt:

"NEW YORK–A 47-million-year-old primate fossil that is so complete scientists can even tell what its last meal was promises to shed new light on the earliest stages of the lineage that eventually led to humans, researchers said yesterday.

The unprecedented new fossil of a lemur-like creature found in Germany that probably weighed no more than a kilogram when fully grown is remarkable because it is the most complete primate specimen ever obtained.

About the size of a small cat, the animal has four legs and a long tail. Nobody is claiming it’s a direct ancestor of monkeys and humans, but it provides a good indication of what a long-ago ancestor may have looked like, researchers said."

There’s already a thread about this: https://www.blackmesasource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=318

That’s great-great-great uncle Tom for you.

Damn, well, hopefully someone will close or merge this one. Thanks for the redirect, Lamsey.

There’s already a thread about this: no wait… this the original.

If you listen closely you can hear creationists saying “OH SHI-”.

Since when have creationists ever paid attention to scientific evidence?

dons tinfoil hat

Pfft, fossils are a test of faith, you’re all faggots.

lol

[COLOR=‘Red’]Merging.

Heaven help us if someone discovers Al, the mentally deranged town idiot from a few thousand years ago and then we call HIM the missing link.

Sorry… but I started to pooh pooh everything the day they tried to tell me in gradeschool that scientific evidence was able to figure out the age, body type, head shape, and animal JUST by having a single tooth to work with. And that was BEFORE I started to believe in intelligent design.

Now give me back my tinfoil hat Lamsey.

The Merging! What have you done!!!

:fffuuu:

So because archaeologists have a tendency to over-speculate quite a bit on sketchy evidence and educated guess work (and actually you’d be amazed at what an animal’s teeth can tell you about its lifestyle, and consequently about its body shape, if you can follow the reasoning) you decided instead to give up on looking for any explanation for anything and just settle for ‘I dunno, God did it’.

Intelligent Design isn’t an explanation for anything, it’s the absence of an explanation.

I wish more Christians would realize that science and religion are not mutually exclusive, and that by attempting to impose their religious doctrine on scientific theory they are trying to fit a round peg into a square hole, and this by definition will only result in them embarrassing themselves.

Seriously, if Creationists should stick with “God created the big bang, deliberately and in such a way that everything which occured afterward was a direct and intentional result of his original action.” Because Science doesn’t actually have an argument against that. It’s outside the observable realm of scientific study, just as scientific study is outside the realm of theology.

I know I helped, and it may well be inevitable given the subject matter, but I can feel this thread slipping towards a religious debate thread before my very eyes.
