I knew there’d be no Ep3, so that wasn’t exactly a disappointment. However I don’t own a PS3, so I’m a little disappointed that the surprise doesn’t affect me in any way!
I’m also worried that if the Source engine has been considerably updated for Portal 2 (which judging from that teaser may very well have been) I only hope my poor old PC will still be able to handle it!
Portal 2 looks amazing. I’m hoping the updated Source engine really will look that good during gameplay, but after seeing any TF2 ‘Meet The Team’ and the Left 4 Dead cinematics, I’m skeptical as to whether it really is real-time and playable.
Think Steam is going to replace PSN? I couldn’t find a video or transcript of the announcement, was there any hint as to the capacity Steamworks will be involved on the PS3, whether they are bringing over the store or just certain features to go on Valve games? Also, since steamworks is going to be involved does anyone think this means that multiplayer games will be able to play cross-platform? I know Valve wanted to do cross-platform multiplayer for TF2 on the Xbox but Microsoft shut them down.
I doubt it will outright replace it; at least not for a while. However, the friends list and DLC were briefly mentioned.
As for cross-platform multiplayer, PC/Mac gamers would destroy console gamers, unless an auto aim feature was put in place for console gamers. Mouse > gamepad.
I think by Valve doing this, there will be some negative feelings at Microsoft; however, hopefully they realize that being mean to Valve will only bit them in the ass later on.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
