Dynamic Muzzle flashes/ artillery

Left over from where I edited out where I had typed “Lit up the environment lit up the environment”.

Well edit it again :hmph:

Once again, I can guarantee it’s not in hl2 by default, which is why I brought it up. It just lights up the view model/nearby models.

That’s just an example of how it can be incorporated into OB gameplay.
I imagine if the BM team were to tackle it they’d make it look a bit better, more along the lines of the left 4 dead effect.

edit: ninjas in here :fffuuu:

I have!

Good!

I am really surprised that no one has said “FEATURE CREEP[/SIZE]” yet…

Creature feep, you bunch of needy little bungholes.

The creature feep is a dying breed. In this modern age of gaming, ALL games are creature feeps, from Shadow Complex to Uncharted 2.

(All games also apparently have Nolan North in 'em, but we’ll deal with that later.)

I like it.

The environment also isn’t lit up around burning barrels, car wrecks or critters, although that would be more realistic, regarding the huge flames that engulf them when set on fire.

But I imagine it would be a pain in the ass to code such a thing, not to mention how it would possibly rape our graphic cards.

Not directly related to the feature suggested by OP, but also about dynamic lighting, so I figured I wouldn’t open a new thread for this.

I remember in Ep1’s lowlife chapter Flaming NPC’s cast light, but i heard that can take a toll on performance if placed too much (don’t know the technical details on this so I can’t back that up), which is probably why it was only in that level. But it looked awesome.

??? Do you have that captured on screen? I am certain I have never seen such a thing in Ep 1.

EDIT: Never mind - I’ve replayed and found it:

Muzzle Flash lighting effect (Alyx):

Burning Zombie lighting effect:

“Light em up, Gordon!”

crappy pics from online, but i on’t wanna redownload fraps atm.

also, Flares were awesome.

Awesome nevertheless :3

Hopefully it doesn’t affect performance too much

I’m one of those who will be able to enjoy that on my machine (; Thank you for including it despite the performance hit.

I’m sure I will too, just hope it’s not one of those performance hits due to the source engine’s age, rather than one’s hardware.

I think its a bit of both.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
