Does entropy rule out there being ghosts?

100%

Still, it can be fun, to mention nothing of lazy brain floss.

No doubt most of it is due to folks not understanding the science behind it. - Compound that with people assuming that what they experience is ALWAYS correct, and that makes for some interesting chat.

According to Sagan, in his book, “Demon Haunted World” he quoutes a 1993 study that showed that 87% of folks who claimed they were abducted, had been molested as children. Which is way higher than the non abducted crowd average. So, it is reasonable to conclude that because thier demographic is way higher than the average, the things they experience, regardless of how real it seems to them, were tied into their past - not a real present experience.

And why the hell would E.T. want to come millions of light years to play bump bump with humans anyway… what’s the issue… are their chicks that ugly?

Shrugs.

Hmmm, the book Quirkology has a bit to say on ghosts, namely they seem to appear in rooms which have apperatures conducive of creating low frequency noises (if a breeze passes by it) The affects of low frequency noise on humans is well enough documented.

Also if Bigfoot had no recognisable DNA markers I would find this strange compared to 3 million recognisable DNA markers. Hell humans share DNA markers with rats (certain DNA markers are how biologists define the divergence of species). I’d find no recognisable DNA markers more indicative of it being fake than real!

Nessie FTW!

Although I think aliens are the most statistically probable “non conventional” life form.

I felt like I had seen a ghost a few days ago but then I remembered that I was sleeping, I hadn’t even opened my eyes, so there was no way I had actually seen a real ghost. I wish more people were at least smart enough to realize this, so we wouldn’t have to deal with all the false positives.

Though I say most supernatural things DO NOT EXIST.

Ain’t that the truth. Then again if they did, they’d probably be smart enough to hide it

I accidentally a ghost

Wait what?

The ghost the whole thing, duh

wait, you accidentally a WHOLE ghost!? or only part of it?

Yes… no markers is troubling - but then, one would think that monkeys and apes would show self aware traits, but they don’t. Elephants do, but apes don’t. I find that interesting - It would be interesting to know how many mirror neurons apes and elephants have. curious. (The thought being that it would be interesting to see how high their numbers are, as they (Mirror neurons) are thought to play a large part in both adaptive learning and knowing the difference between self and other)

Regardless, even with the sample being taken and the findings somewhat published, the follow up does not seem to have been published. Maybe I got the info wrong, but I am pretty good for facts and figures. When I get time, I will have a quick search for it to see if anything else was found.

You know… the marker thing is a realy good point. Good Call. Then, the sample was not synthetic - at least, that is what the first report said.

Does common sense rule out there being ghosts?

the sixth sense is not so common

Instead of asking yourself these typical questions often used by religious people, ask yourself whether or not it’s possible for a certain type of energy to exist in our space-time universe.

There should be a transition in your life when you stop believing in monsters and ghosts and start doing science and get smart - looks like some people (well, most of humanity) have a lot of problems with that.

wat

WAT What?

As in what tests do they use to conclue this, or…?

In mirror tests, an ape will not realise it is him/her self they are seeing. They see their image as being another ape… An elephant, after a short time, realises it is an imaqge of them.

Jeannotvb - this is thread is some what intended as a lark, not anything serious. So far the answers have been fun and quipy.

(Shrugs)

I think your first question is where the rubber hits the road really. Very true.

Still, it is fun to football a muse like this around.

You, good sir, are mildly confusing.

In that case I’ll just say I liked the Ghostbuster movies.

listens to the Ghostbuster theme on YouTube

Untrue. Most humans (great apes) recognize themselves in mirrors. But I’m being pedantic. :retard:

Bonobos, chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas, humans, bottlenose dolphins, orcas, elephants, European Magpies, barn owls, and pigs have ALL recognized themselves in mirrors.

Hell, even my cat shows self-awareness in a mirror. My cat was looking at himself in the mirror and I placed my laser dot on his backside so he could see it only in his reflection. And he reacted by turning around to where the laser dot was…ON HIS BODY (not in the mirror). He knew that the laser dot on his backside was on his backside, not on the backside of another cat.

Danielsangeo -

I stand corrected. Here is an interesting link that looks at this topic.

Pardon all, I was parroting a program I had seen recently, and asumed the info was correct.

(Sigh. I admit it freely… sometimes old guys crap the bed concerning info.

Again, thanks for the correction.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
