DM_Warehouse

A little map I just started working on.

It is a lot smaller than I was planning. I can never get proportions right in Hammer.

So far, not bad…

As a criticism I have to say that the girders shouldn’t take up half of the room space… Especially since the roof appears to be quite light, it seems unnecessary to have such thick metal girders to support it. They also give the room a low height clearence, so it wouldn’t make much of a functional warehouse.

But not bad so far really, you’ve got some nice details in there. I’m not too sure about the tiled floor… warehouses usually have concrete floors…

I recommend having a look at some photographs of warehouses for references on architecture and perhaps texturing too…

Get the fuck back to working on the snow castle!

I definately agree on all your points. The problem is that when I was building it in hammer I wasn’t paying enough attention to proportions and was imagining the roof as quite wide and tall. Usually i map with an info_player_deathmatch nearby for reference, but I forgot to do that this time.

The reason the floor is tile is because I was too lazy to take the time to find a good concrete texture right now.

Lol. I hate finishing maps, I get sick of the tiny details and glitches that need to be fixed before release.

Something I find that helps is placing some static models around, ones that you are familiar with in game, it can really help to give a visual reference. Crates or shelves… door and window models can be very helpful too.

kewl.

Good idea, I’ll try that.

I just place player spawns to compare height to the actual player.

New pics, looks a lot better. I think all I have left to do is details such as random junk and crates and some lights. I am thinking of making a second warehouse identical to this one attached to it by some doors.

What type of warehouse stores water?

This looks great… but maybe use some different textures for the beams and columns… they are all looking the same

I’m done, here are the final pics and a dl link.

It’s looking great!!!.. personally I wouldn’t go so far as to say it looks finished… Your lights need corona sprites… your light props are casting shadows on themselves, you could do some more lightmap work in high contrast areas… other than that, you could use some overlays and little misc props for detail…

Built your cubemaps properly?

The map could definetly be bigger, and I question the placement of most of the weapons at the top of the map. You could add new sections to the warehouse, with cranes and shipping containers and whatnot, and also an actual entrance (Not usable) to indicate that this is not just simply a prison cell with lotsa boxes.

V2, por favor?

Cubemaps are more or less built correctly, 64 units up, everywhere you can walk, the only thing is they look a little choppy when using the Crossbow and looking in the lens.

Doors were something I was planning on but forgot about.

There are enough weapons on the ground, I just put tons of them in rafters as a reward if you can survive getting up there.

I like the idea of a second area with cranes and such. I can probably get to work on version 2 tomorrow. I just hate finishing maps as i said before, which is why I rushed completion on this map.
