My god, do you have to be so obnoxious?
I never said I now thought the movie was stupid. I said that in the trailer it looked like another over-the-top alien-invasion movie, from the point where the robot-like thing shows up.
Those things just break the immersion for me because they don’t seem realistic to me at all.
Sorry, It’s just that that’s what EVERYONE’S been saying since the second trailer came out.
Also…Of all things in this movie…The robots are the most realistic.
I mean come on. FUCKING aliens. With psychic powers… (from the short)
Aliens with psychic powers are one thing. We’ve all SEEN robots. Those do not look, move, or function like real robots do.
Watching robots fight is boring. Without free will or vague biological limitations, the outcome seems predetermined. How else could I already know that Sarah Conner would live, and the Decepticons would lose?
This is a robot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1czBcnX1Ww
This is CGI of metal scraps vaguely shaped into a robot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BjWEn5yvmw#t=1m49s
And no, I’m not referring to the way it sounds. I’m referring to it being a mediocre effect.
I’ve gotta agree, that part of the trailer strikes me as a pathetic attempt to inject action. If they just have to utilize robots, I wish they went with a more endowing approach like this masterpiece has.
Those were some pretty good effects, and from 2004 no less. They also did the effects for Iron Man, on their sight it showed a number of scenes that I didn’t even know were cgi effects.
If you’re going to turn a good concept for a movie into a mindless eye-candy-fest, then at the very least make it look good. (unlike a few recent movies I could name)
well, i guess we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we.
i personally am looking forward to this, although i admit i’m not the type who insists every movie has something to prove.
Well it’s the same guy. All they really showed of they robot was it jumping…and then laying on the ground catching a missile…and getting hit by a car…and looking behind it. Nothing it does really shows off how it will move on it’s own in the movie, because most shots are either really quick or are being affected by outside forces.
There’s really nothing it does that looks unreal. Besides being a large robot. The way it moves looks correct in it’s context. And we have no fucking idea how it works. It’s not human made. We’ve seen robots, sure. OUR robots.
Also, “has to inject robots”? There were suits in the original short, man. It threw fucking trucks at people. It’s only being true to itself.
I’m really looking foward to the movie. It’s his first feature lenth film, ever since he moved on from the Halo project people’ve been giving him shit. It’d be nice for this to be good.
Am I missing something? Doesn’t this take place further into the future than HL2, and yet people are disbelieving of the robot when no-one ever complains about Dog?
I was actually gonna say that
The whole thing started in 1990, the commercials say it’s happened for 30 years…
So the movie takes place in 2020 ( barely a bit after HL2) but still.
Robots are cool, nobody fucking cares if it’s not realistic. We don’t even have decent robots as of 2009, a year that’s supposed to be like, the Jetsons or something.
Robots are also supposed to kill people, not fuck their sisters like in that Transformers remake and it’s sequel.
What is there to “prove” aside from being at least somewhat memorable, and barely surpass being mediocre?
His worth as a director. It’s Niel Blomkamp’s first movie, and it looks like people are getting out of their way to make sure it’s a success.
I can’t believe this part hasn’t been mentioned yet, but
District 9 is directly inspired by Alive in Joburg.[/size]

and I now forgive the “robots,” as I hope they remain biosuits.
I believe it was already made quite obvious that a film with the same characters, in the same setting, filmed by the same director was the inspiration for this movie.
Don’t know why but that robot reminds me somehow of this
its probably the bunny ears…
Image link fail.
Looks to me like it’s more inspired by the concept of Apartheid.
