The exact opposite huh?
So that would mean that Gordon Freeman would be a muscular macho morron.
Black Mesa would be a Footbal field or something of the kind. The Combine would be beautiful women that mean nothing but bring joy to the world. The zombies would be normal people. Ravenholm a flower field. Alyx would be a fat ugly psycho bitch. The Gman would be a normal, totaly not weird guy. Striders would be tiny happy things. And so on and so on.
Its not just me seeing a resemblance, the mood set by this directing style is definitely a reflection of the Half Life influence and shows a possible way a movie could be made with Half Life in general.
In fact the more I read about the movie Niel Blomkamp and Peter jackson, the more I am sold on the fact it IS definately Half Life inspired.
I suppose Payback was inspired by Tron. They both have a lot of blue to their look.
I guess The Matrix was inspired by Goldeneye 64. They both have a lot of guns in them.
Your argument is crap. No matter how you back it up it is crap until I hear one of the movie makers themselves back it up. I could look really hard and find tons of stuff that look similar in some insignificant way, but they would all be crap too. Do you know why? Because they would all be guesses, because I can’t look into the movie makers heads and see where their influences really come from. Fans of half Life will see half Life influences. Fans of Alien Nation will see influences from there. Fans of Children of Men will see that. But it’s all nonsense.
Whoa no need to be so defensive, I am talking about style and substance as well, not the god damn storyline only - think outside the box for a change. Your defense… well I could say “Crap” like you did though that would just lower me to a typical forum troll.
I presented my case backed up with feelings of the same ilk without the need to call anyone an idiot, try do the same.
But I’m an asshole. It’s expected of me to act like this.
The most I see is a similar color palette. Beyond that? Nothing looks similar. Africa versus New Mexico and eastern Europe? They never looked so similar! It’s amazing! Scientists versus police and military? Nope. The aliens look different, the attitude of everyone involved seems different, the story is different… Ooh, a documentary feeling versus a first person shooter? I would more likely say it was inspired by other documentaries and docudramas.
Stop trying to argue your opinion into everyone else. It’s even more petty than I am. Just accept the fact that most people will disagree with you and Move On.
You are only analysing the storyline and physical elements of a movie and not the visual style, ambience and artistic direction - something you nearly alluded to with “similar color palette”
Stop trying to argue your opinion into everyone else. DITTO.
He asked for it. I see no possible similarities, other than DOG-bot, but that’s stretching it. And the gluon gun. But Robots and Laser Guns existed waaaaaaaaaaaaay before half-life.
It’s a movie about space immigrants and alien racism. I wouldn’t be surprised if it has a completely straightforward ending/message. Due to mandates or otherwise.
We know what you are referring to, and we don’t agree. That does not mean that I am not stoked about this movie, it just means that it does not remind me of Half Life at all.
Why can’t most of you accept that the movie’s style reminds AzzX of Half-Life 2, without getting all worked up about it?
Anyway, I was pretty impressed by that trailer until the robot-like things came into play. From then on it seemed like just another over-the-top alien invasion movie.
