Yes I was very impressed when I read that but where do you draw the line? You truly can’t continue another year with this at some point a line has to be drawn.

Hire me and I’ll work 24/7.

Seriously, “handful of volunteers”? I’m willing to bet that there are more than 100 persons in this whole interwebz willing to work and finish the mod. Why don’t you just get more to work on it if you’re complaining about the “little free time”.

Don’t get me wrong, I respect the team for everything they’ve done so far but really now, this is getting ridiculous.

I’ll give them credit for being the most tight lipped team I’ve seen developing a mod, especially regarding a release date. Stuff like that you would think would get leaked all over the place.

It did get leaked. Twice. Second time kind of.

You’re right about the early alphas. I was talking about the release date itself.

That doesn’t mean they’re skilled, or even have the slightest clue what they’re doing. The BM team is full of highly qualified hobbyists who know Source inside and out. They have no guarantee anyone else who would apply would, nor do they need the help. Just more free time and less people like you complaining.

Just bringing people in is going to mean more than just gaining some additional hands, anyone who’ve ever developed anything knows this.

Especially in a project like Black Mesa.
You run the risk of just hiring people who have no interest in helping, but are just volunteering to get a sneak peak at the mod, ruin it, leak it or just troll.
It’s a difficult process trying to filter out the people who have a genuine interest in helping, and are capable from those who are just… Dicks, in lack of better words.

So in the end it’s more efficient and safe to just avoid bringing new people onboard the project at this point.

And of course, how much could there be to do at this late stage? For new people to jump on board would just be taking credit away from where it is due, especially when they haven’t been helping from the beginning.

Ah, I see. Thank you!

It wouldn’t if there’s nothing to leak. I’m sure there’s no official release date even between the people working so nothing can really get leaked.

if a release date actually leak… would you really belive it? seriously?

I’ve been a big fan of this mod since 2005 and I’ve only recently began to wonder if it’ll ever get released. I still think it will, but I doubt I still would in 2 years. That said, even just seeing the screenshot comparison pics has given me a lot of pleasure over the years, and never stopped amazing me.

Hopefully even if the mod is never completed to the mod team’s satisfaction it’s released. I’d still love to run around this half-life re-imagined project.

Yeah you always keep telling us about the scale of the thing…we want to actually WITNESS all that EFFORT your putting in the mod… don’t tell me that starting the mod, loading a random level and taking&uploading a few screenshots “slows down the development” With respect… I’ve heard “OMG WE’RE WORKING ON A HUGE PROJECT” a million times… now please… give the dog a bone

Someone actually paid for a domain registration and hosting for that? Good thing that doesn’t cost more than $20 to setup, but they still have to pay for it on a monthly basis.

I must applaud Ram for his openness. Answering questions just straight up is what this forum needs. Most of the hate comes from frustration. But it does amaze me when people complain about an honest answer because it isn’t what they want to hear… :hmph:

With all that being said and done, I really hope you and the other developers have learned something from your personal “Black Mesa experience”. It sounds like it hasn’t only been a tough journey for the community.

So keen for this game. I’m wasting like 2 hours of my life each day on this website because of how excited I am.

I appreciate how bug-fixing can take a long time. Keep it up. We’re all obviously really keen for this. Kind of wish there was some way I could contribute. Really appreciate the honest answers too.

Thank you for working at this.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
