Dedicated Server on Linux

I currently have a spare decent spec VPS which I used to use for a Garys Mod server however, it’s going spare. I was wondering if Black Mesa supported a Linux VPS for dedicated servers? Is it possible to be pointed into the right direction to set one up?

Thanks.

Just use SteamCMD and 346680 for the app id, and the latest snapshot of Sourcemod & Metamod for administration.

Thank you, I have managed to install the server on the VPS and it runs very well.

I’m having a lot of trouble installing sourcemod though. When I type ‘meta list’ in the console it says that the mod 1 has failed (which would be Sourcemod).

I’ve looked around on the interwebs but having trouble finding a solution :frowning:

You sure they’re the latest snapshots?
It runs fine on my machine.

I’ve managed to fix it, I was using the latest snapshot of Sourcemod not Metamod when I needed both.

Server runs great though every now and again it crashes and drops all the players. It also sometimes drop all the players when it changes the map and I can’t seem to figure out a pattern :frowning: I contacted my VPS provider and they say theirs no over usage of CPU/disk/network etc so I’m not sure whats wrong with the server :frowning:

Did you check the logs?

Sorry for being a noob, but where can I find them?

BMS/BMS/logs
addons/sourcemod/logs

Thanks for your reply.

I just checked and I can’t find a logs folder in my bms folder. :frowning:

Looked at the sourcemod logs and there was nothing concerning any errors/crashes.

Edit: Logging was disabled in my server.cfg so have now enabled it and it creates the log files. Sadly, they are all blank though?

Which SM plugins are you using?

Currently I’m using Cannoance and Advertisements 6.0 alongside the included plugins, apart from the map vote one.

The server just crashed again and it had about 16 players in. No warning was given and was totally unpredictable. The game server crashed and everyone lost connection, but just a few seconds the server was back up were it was automatically restarted. The VPS itself remains ‘healthy’ after the game server crashes.

Just checked the logs and the most recent ones are blank. They appear to save after every map end.

Add the “-debug” commandline parameter, and check what the debug.log says (this is usually in the root directory).

If that also doesn’t say anything useful, I’d personally try to launch without the plugins loaded, or remove SM & MM if it still doesn’t work or a clean BM installation.
