Decoy - Short Film

Well, here’s a short film I made recently for my A-Level Media course. The acting and story aren’t very strong at all, but it was a lot of fun to make! It was mostly an attempt at a professional-looking production.

It was all filmed and edited by me, including a lot of the sounds and music.

Thanks,

Harry

:awesome:

the fighting effects like punches could be a bit louder though

Interesting use of RA3 music.

It was pretty good but the whole twist ending was a little strange considering if Carter wanted the protagonist dead he could have just done that from the start and skipped a beating.

:fffuuu:

not a bad film anyways… kinda liked it

Not bad at all. I´m not gonna say anything about the acting, which IMO isn´t that important. What´s more important is the production quality.

Good cinematography, although i would recommend that you use some more tripod shots. Wiggle from hand held camera isn´t that comfortable to look at after a while. My teacher use to say, “FOR GODS SAKE, USE TRIPOD YOU IDIOTS”.

Sound effects were a bit lame, at least for the fighting scenes. When the guy knock out that other guy with one punch it sounds like a weak slap in the face, so by all means, kick it up a notch.

I would also recommend that you cut out some of the walking which gets a bit boring after a while.

I´m not saying this is bad in any way, because this is good for a student production, but with some small changes it would go from good to great.

Best of luck with your next film and let us know how it turns out.

When I saw the thread title my thoughts instantly shifted towards the short film Half-Life: Uplink because I had forgotten the name and Decoy sounds like Decay and Half-Life for the PlayStation had an addon called Decay so yea.

Thats seriously not bad. What camera are you using?

Thanks guys! Nice crits mgmartin!

I used a Canon 550D (and a 5D Mark II on one or two shots). I also used a Hague DMC Steadicam for a lot of the shots, although I didn’t get a chance to perfect most of the pans / movements. :frowning:

Yeah, the Canon 55 seems to me really gaining in popularity recently. I really need to get myself one.

I liked it! A lot!
