Counter-Portal

Saw a remix of Gabe’s response to the qusetion “When are you going to release counter-strike 2?” In it, counter-portal was mentioned and I started thinking. Is there anyway to make an action competitive portal mod? Am I the only one that thinks that this would be cool? 3…2…1…BRAINSTORM!

hm… sounds like a cool idea/mod but to this video…
The creator of this movie needs to ship his brain^^

There are hl2 guns left-over in portal 1, but all the multiplayer portal code is in portal 2, so we’re fucked unless someone can code this game from scratch.

Oh, I meant having a competitive game with only portal guns. So can’t you just use the regular SDK for that? (Don’t know shit about hammer, so don’t bash me)

you can play 1v1 co-op in portal 2 on custom maps, but if you don’t have guns it’s hard to imagine any meaningful gameplay with more than 2 players

I saw this mod on moddb.

Its gameplay concept can be modified to get an unreal tournament experience+puzzles.

On a semi-Portal related note, I’ve always thought that some kind of competitive multiplayer TAG game would be fun. Maybe add some kind of radiation gel so that players could combat each other, since it’s kind of hard to kill other players with just repulsion, propulsion, adhesion, and environmental hazards. There could be deathmatch, capture-the-flag, you name it.

I think I heard somewhere that valve tested a portal deathmatch, but it wasn’t very fun so they scrapped it.

It’s easy enough to kill each other in portal 2 co op though. Easy to make custom maps and portal placement never fail command help too. You can even pick up turrets and use them as guns.

Now what I feel like would be a bit more fun though, is a capture the flag, or sort of castle invasion game mode. You set up your castle, with a limited amount of currency to put down traps and puzzles to get through, and you have to get into the other person’s castle.

There are hl2 weapons left-over in website 1, but all the multi-player website value is in website 2, so we’re banged unless someone can value the game from the begining.

There is multiplayer-code in Portal 1, so all we need is some multiplayer maps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM4Cac02R0s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUEmz2j70pI

holy necro!

Yeah, I think I’ve seen those, there are some problems with hl2 AI not being able to see the player through portals, so unless you’re playing with bots it should be fine.

someone should put the portal gun in black mesa

Well I suppose this is kind of on topic.
Because 2.1 has lua support they put a Portal gun in SRB2.

You can literally play fucking Sonic the Hedgehog with a portal gun.
Hail SSNtail and mystic

Oh and I guess you can also record gifs.

Wrong company wrong technology also done to death.

Personall i am hoping for the displacement canon.

Half BFG from doom and with the. alt fire you lay down a teleport point when you click again you teleport back to where you laid the marker.

It only helps you get back to places that you once were but that is a game mechanic that can be just as interesting

This would make for a map entity optimization nightmare.

Ronster I remember that in UT2004. I loved that gun.

I feel a sudden urge to download it again for the umpteenth time after umpteen years.

Was a displacement cannon in Opposing Force or Blue Shift? I remember having some weird-ass gun in one of those which I never quite understood what it’s supposed to be doing, and when I messed with the triggers (left and right), I typically ended up insta-fragged somehow.

That seriously made me go WTF.

The teleport gun from OpFor? Left click was a typical big blast like a BFG, but alt. fire teleported the player to a location depending on what map they were on in the game, sometimes to find ammo and supplies, other times you get into some weird place in Xen.
