Could not load library client.

OK, so there will be no support?
I guess I will delete it from my old PC then.

I agree. It was a beefy download, but there is zero indication that anything further is being done.

I have an amd phenom 2 x4 3.0. My problem is the dlls in bms/bin. Client and server are both 0kb in size. Anyone have working dlls they could link me?

After playing about two thirds of the game, I was given this message too. My solution was to find the Black Mesa Setup in my documents and re-install the game. My save data was still on it and it worked.

Try launching Source SDK Base 2007 once and closing it and see if this helps.

Wouldn’t it be possible to put black mesa in another file and load it using a batch file? I don’t have any experience coding, but I know that it’s possible to run games like Minecraft with extra memory using batch files.

I installed the game without any problems and played it quite some time but yesterday it simply wouldn’t start. The error was exactly the same as the topic is named so I decided to check for solution. Here’s what I did and it worked.

Well I don’t think the game itself is a problem but before you do further steps save your gamesave files. I didn’t bother to check that before…
Rather launch the Steam, then from menu launch source SDK. Then under Utilities double-click “refresh SDK content” and after that “reset game configurations”. I’m sure that will save you ton’s of time and traffic

Hopefuly it will work for others too.

I went directly to Steam and found this:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9626-UOAC-4950

It worked after I rebooted.
Happy Hunting!

I can confirm that the solution from Sir1oin worked for me as well.

Try and see if you can start Source SDK Base 2007, I could not do this and received the same error Black Mesa gave me.

The fix provied by Sir1oin and a reboot fixed it for me.

@boran_blok - Do you have an old 32-bit Athlon?

It worked for me!!!I re-downloaded and installed the entire game from moddb. Before that deleted the entire BMS folder under Steam\steamapps\sourcemods. I also copied the SAVE folder to another safe location before deleting BMS folder. This is the link:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/black-mesa/downloads/black-mesa-torrent

Had to wait for some time to get the 3 GB torrent file downloaded. But after running the game from steam, it was worth waiting. I did not do any refresh SDK content as mentioned by GoranP
All the NPCs were there and game had no problems. I checked playing the new game till tram reaches SectorC, guard opened door and entered the area. Then I closed the game, copied the save data (previously copied to another location) to BMS folder and loaded, it worked perfectly.

None of these worked for me however when trying to ‘Play’ the 2007 SDK I got the same error i.e. “Could not load library client”. Tried to repair the Steam service but still no go so removed and re-added the SDK still didn’t work however a SDK update then installed and then the game worked fine. Seems to be an issue with the SDK.

Enjoying the Mod very much. Thanks to the team for the awesome effort!

Its fantastic!! Enjoying every moment playing it!!! Thank you very much BMS team. Awesome work!!!

Here is my system config:
System Model: Studio XPS 8100
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

I had the “could not load library client” issue. But re-installing entire BMS did fix it. I don’t know if it has anything to do with processor

athlon xp3200+
no run ((

I’m getting this error and followed this tip. The game never even showed up in Steam after I restarted it. Still getting the error. Is there any way to play this mod? Thanks.

So the question is, has anyone with an Athlon XP actually run this?
Lots of conflicting reports here.

No it won’t. It looks like your CPU does not support SSE2 instructions. The Source Engine is heavily dependent on SSE2 operations, specifically for math calculations. As far as I know, we can’t fix this problem without recompiling the entire Source Engine (requires a license which we don’t have).

Lol I never even bothered complaining about it. Games already started dropping AthlonXP support back in 2007…

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
