Community forum guidlines page

Hey gang,

I dont know if anyone noticed but pages around the website are slowly starting to update in anticipation for our new wiki design release coming up. I had a grand idea as to create a landing page users must read and agree to before visiting the forums in order to reduce the amount of “is the mod dead?” posts.

I reckin we allow YOU to create this page together via this thread and I’ll go ahead and handle the rest. A few things that should be mentioned is that the mod is still currently in development, our laws of the land, ect.

I look forward to what you all gather up

I don’t think that’ll work as effective… Most peeps will just scroll down and press “I Agree” while not noticing the things written there

As always, Ram fucks off children from entering the forums

Fix: add a security question: who’s got the prettiest nose ever?

[EDIT] Of course, there should be no mention of Ram (or noses) in this page.

“I recognize that the mod is not dead, and will be released upon completion, no sooner. I agree to not create a new thread asking if the mod is dead or for a release date, especially not within my first week on the forums.”
“I accept that many regular forum members are irritable due to the amount of new members repeatedly asking questions of whether the mod is dead, release dates, and demos, and will not take any flaming personally until I have become a headcrab.”
“I will place all small or quick suggestions in the “Got a Quick Suggestion?” Thread located in the Suggestion Box, all Questions related to the mod in the “Got a Question?” thread in the Cafeteria, and all questions directly to the developers themselves in the “Ask a Developer” thread, also in the Cafeteria.”
“I will make proper use of the sub-forums. All discussion related to the mod will go in the Cafeteria, all suggestions will go in the Suggestion Box, Entries to community Projects will go in the Community Projects subforum, Problems will go in the Website Support forum, and all Off-topic threads and posts will go in the correct Off-topic subforum.”

Maybe a questionnaire to ensure they have either read it, or have common sense.
Example:
The mod is;
A ) Dead
B ) In Development
C ) Vaporware

Trolling may result in;
A ) A pat on the back
B ) Promotion to moderator status
C ) An immediate ban.

Make it just like “Is Black Mesa Released?”(the website)

You should actually put that on there, would weed out some of the worst morons.

I understand and agree that creating “Is the mod dead” threads is a permanently bannable offence and I understand and agree that anyone who does so, is mentally sub-par and fully deserves the consequence.

I here by promise to not be retarded, wether on purpose or otherwise. I understand and agree that anyone who breaks this promise is to be banned at moderators whim.

I don’t think I’ve ever read any of these things, I just press ‘agree’ and move on… :frowning:

new wiki design? what now.

Thats why you don’t have an I agree button. It asks a question :stuck_out_tongue:

Also does this forum have a minimum post restriction for creating new threads? If it does might want to change that error page to say something like please post questions in the “ask a Question” Thread also incluse a link to the FAQ/wikiFAQ

I feel like if we have a long explanation of forum rules new users are going to just skip over and ignore it.

We should start it with some simple answers in bullet form or something that show the most asked questions, and a more complex explanation lower down.

  • the mod isn’t dead, it’s in development
  • there is no release date set yet, but the mod is on schedule
  • (some links to Got a Suggestion and whatnot)

or a link to https://isblackmesareleased.com

do this

change the bullets to check boxes!

Then it’s like a line by line agreement.

Initial here, here, here, sign here, your thumb print here, your first born here… and I think were good.

At least Put an I agree check box that sates something Like “I agree to the above and will not post a ‘da mod is dedz?’ thread”

Also tell them that making bad threads will result in a permanent ban.

But in small print in the bottom so we still get to ban them.

Hey, I’ve been lurking around the forums for a while now, but long enough to see plenty of crap posts. Basically the trend I’m seeing is a, “Is the mod dead?” thread started and everyone yelling at them to read the faq. I know it may get slightly annoying for some of the older users, but you could have the faq as the main page. I know that it won’t completely stop the troll posts, but maybe (just maybe) it will help.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
