Code 2 installation error

I’ve downloaded BMS from multiple sources and the installation always gets aborted with a code 2. I’ve tried using 7zip, winrar, etc and it makes no difference. I’ve also tried to manually unpack and install the files and I get ~20k errors.

I’ve seen other threads on this but it seems like most of the threads are gone?!? How do I solve this code 2 issue so that I can actually play this mod?

Can you post a screenshot of the error message?

WinRAR warning message “CRC failed in BlackMesa.7z. The file is corrupt”. I’ve had this for the last 5-6 download attempts :frowning:

WinRAR won’t work because the mod is packaged in a 7zip archive. What error message does 7zip give you? EDIT: Are you running a firewall and/or antivirus?

Hi geekofalltrades

Tried 7zip already…but have just tried it again on one of my several BlackMesa.7z files. Unfortunately, again, after uncompressing 7z puts out a warning message saying over 6500+ files are broken. Naturally I am using AV and a firewall. Thanks for your help .

I had a lot of failed installations with code 2 errors. This was due to the BlackMesa.7z file being corrupt. The following tells you how to repair using a torrent program but without the hassle of a full new download.

Put the corrupt BlackMesa.7z file into the directory where your torrent program downloads files (I use BitTorrent) and then download the torrent from the download section of Black Mesa website. As you already have the BlackMesa.7z file your torrent program will assume you have already partially downloaded the file and start to check if the file is complete and ok. In my case it found it to be 99.5% ok and downloaded an additional 400mB . The extra download repairs the corrupt file - not sure why it was corrupt as like the OP I had downloaded loads of times and could not get one to work.

Once the download completed I copied it (The repaired BlackMesa.7z file) into the recommended location \Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\BMS along with the BlackMesa-Setup.exe file.

This time installation worked with no errors and game is ready to play - you will need to quit and restart Steam before it shows up in your library.

Played a few minutes of the game and looks great!

I’ve had the same issues as the OP. I tried the torrent method above no deal, md5 sum checks out good so I doubt its the archive.
