The source code of the mod, right?
Yep. And/or the RMFs for the maps.
Also this has gotta be the umpteenth post by me saying that the SvenCoop solution is unideal to Half-Life cooperation, and a hideous craze that isn’t dying out fast enough.
I think nobody will bother making co-op for black mesa if source engine 2 gets released. whenever will that be?
How does the release of another engine suddenly make people stop working on a mod? Do you know how hard it is to port a mod just between versions of source engine V1.0, it’d probably be impossible to get it to work on an even newer version.
Exactly. If there will be a Sven Coop 2, it will be with Source 2.0 or whatever Valve’s next engine is.
let’s hope for someone makes a coop black mesa for obsdian conflict
anyway sven co-op is awesome, the best third-party mod for hl1
Destination?
haha…
also I played Synergy a bit and also Obsidian Conflict. but I think Synergy is more of a a proper co-op for the HL2 story.
what are your takes?
Of the two of them Synergy actually seems like you’re playing through HL2 with other people. Obsidian Conflict just seems like an attempt at Sven Co-op 2.
Synergy is what HL2 co-op should be about. No added bullshit.
I have to agree with you. I played it several times, but almost every map had a boring and crappy level design and sometimes it’s just a frustrating “die and respawn”.
This is no argument. There are still people starting HL1 mod projects and for other games that are even older.
There will be no “next” engine, as long as Source fits their needs (that’s what Gabe Newell said last time). But there will come great new features with the next Source Engine upgrade (rewritten rendering path, enhanced lighting and so on).
It is an argument since the SC devs said they wouldn’t make one on the current Source engine, it’s too much work for too little gain, especially when there’s other co-op mods already out there.
In my eyes this just means, that the devs don’t have any innovative ideas for a sequel, so that they need something “new” and “shiny” to hide this fact.
So the fact that they’re still working on SC1 and don’t have all that much experience with the Source engine doesn’t matters then? There are other factors, but i can’t tell you those because they’re not publicly known yet.
well I sure hope they enjoy working on a such an old mod. and for a game that came out in 1998.
I sure wouldn’t.
Clearly you are from a newer generation
Damn man, that’s pretty harsh; it’s just a free mod to play coop in the gold source engine and in it’s time it was amazing.
Me neither, but I did like Science and Industry… the sequel for it failed. :[
I never understood the desire to play COOP through a single-player game.
I mean, the game is already quite difficult and even frustrating even if there’s only you who can possibly screw things beyond all repair. And now, people actually desire to have someone alongside, who will cook grenades beneath their feet, or toggle switches at the wrong time, or provoke aliens they wanted to avoid?
If you want coop, play L4D.
