Cleaning up my Registry

GLARY JUST FUCKED UP MY GOOGLE CHROME BIG TIME! IT REFUSES TO EVEN LOAD A SINGLE FUCKING PAGE!

RAAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Reinstall Chrome and never use Glary again if it does that.

Forgive my cursing.

Yeah, uninstalled glary. Thank goodness I found out it was not as intuitive as it implied before I used it to clean my registry! Thank God I had a backup of all my bookmarks as of January. Everything else is gone.

Do yourselves a favor everyone… go back up all your browser bookmarks.

Sorry, I’ve never had problems like that (I use Chrome too). What did you do exactly?

I went through all the options and did everything it offered to do for me with the exception of the registry.

The result is when I tried to launch google it wouldnt load a page. My bookmarks were all gone and it replaced them with IE’s bookmarks, and also my printer is no longer working. I am re-downloading all the software right now for my printer. grrrr

Maybe you cleared all of your personalised Browser settings?

I have no idea. I shudder to think what else went wrong that I have not discovered yet.

Yeah, I had a problem like that, I accidentally formatted my HDD a while back (had files on backup anyway) and my computer did not like me for a while, I loaded up my PC after reinstalling Windows and it was going slow. Turned out I had 80% fragmentation.

@Registry Mech, sorry man I am not paying for a product that a freeware/donationware program does almost as well

@Catz Didn’t get that problem Firefox ftw! :stuck_out_tongue:

I have been using the same, small registry cleaner now for 8 years called RegCleaner 4.3 by Jouni Vuorio. It has never failed me using it on Win2k, Vista and now 64 bit Windows 7. It also can be used to control startup programs and uninstall programs as well as clean the registry.

I didn’t say buy it, I said get the full version! :stuck_out_tongue:

What the hell kind of format did you do? :fffuuu:

Erm, I interrupted a system restore, twice. :S

:retard:

Agreed. System Restore has helped me maybe 1-2 times in 15 years of using Windows PCs. And even then, I didn’t trust it because of the 47823 times it DIDN’T work.

+2 for CCleaner, I love that program. I used to use Norton Systemworks back in the day, but that was before I wisened up (circa 2004) and got the hell away from Symantec programs.

Catz, as for your problem, I would do what others recommended - not use Glary again. I’ve heard of it and read about it but never used it myself. And as for your bookmarks, AFAIK Firefox automatically backs up your bookmarks on a regular basis - maybe see if Chrome does the same (or just use Firefox…like you should be doing anyway :stuck_out_tongue: )

To the OP - the only other thing I would recommend checking out on your system is your startup entries. You have to be very careful in there, but you can disable a LOT of useless programs (think about all those icons that get jammed next to your clock in the system tray).

Google - “Registry Startup Keys” - https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial44.html

These two are the most common locations:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

And you can dump things like Adobe Speedlauncher, Quicktime Task (qttask.exe), etc. Just Google each entry if you don’t know what it is, find out what it is, and go from there.

$.02

lol… your charging for help?

Damn, why didn’t i think of that.

No, I think that it is his 2 cents :retard:

As far as start up entries are concerned, I can recommend Autoruns. It might seem a bit complicated, but you really only need the Logon tab.
It shows all the startup entries from the locations Batz mentioned. Also, doesn’t CCleaner also have a similar feature?

Well hey, if I could get a penny for my thoughts, I wouldn’t complain, but yes I was offering my 2 cents. As for CCleaner, it has a registry cleaner (for old startmenu entries, broken shortcuts, etc) and… * edit on the fly * … why, yes, CCleaner has a startup toolkit  haha they must have added that in one of the last releases (and/or I completely overlooked it since I’m used to doing it manually).

If you DO choose to use CCleaner, I would recommend the “delete” option as opposed to “disable” in the Startup Tools - no sense in leaving MORE registry keys hanging around that tells your system which other keys to turn on or off.

glary deleted everything that was not used in recent months including stuff apparently that I would not have normally deleted. gawd that thing messed up my system.

My 5 year old yelled at me for deleting his save game profile in plants vs. zombies. gah!
