You might want to check out this new mod by Impetuous97, which retextures the Vortigaunt, to give it a more “classic” appearance.

Not sure which vort is better but it comes with a barnacle skin and a really nice HL1 headcrab skin.
I thought I was the only one who noticed the difference between HL1 and HL2 headcrabs.

Does the normal map look as bad as it does in game a sit does in that model viewer screen?

- Is there a mod which only changes the vorts’ skin, but not there attack time? I am sorry to admit, but they’re not a threat this way.
Edit: ok, I removed the mod, but vorts didn’t get faster. Does the mod (first one) makes vorts slow in the first place?
Did you back up all of the replaced files? It should be a matter of just putting them back.
Dear god, no. This is just a modified version of pre-Orange Box vorts with a horrible normal map.
Yes. Check the vortigaunt_anims.mdl/ani and be sure they’re the default ones from Half-Life 2: EP2/BM.

- So if someone else wants the vortigaunts with old style skins, but with Black Mesa’s fast attack speed: just don’t use the Vortigaunt_Anims and Vortigaunt_Anims.mdl files from the downloaded package.
