I just scored myself another Dreamcast from my friend. It’s an older firmware version which means I could probably run homebrew on it. Definitely an improvement on my “newer” Dreamcast, which now no longer has a functional disc drive.
I’ve never homebrewed on a Dreamcast, I don’t even know what firmware my ones are.

I think if it was manufactured before November 2000 you could run burned games on it. At least with the NA consoles. I haven’t touched my Dreamcast in years because it was having issues and I haven’t bothered getting it fixed/replaced.
No, it has to be before October, 2000. Anything after that and it’s unlikely. (My first dreamcast was an oct 2000 firmware.)
Also, supposedly Dreamcast is the easiest thing to install Lineux on.
