Cant look up!

In the tram at the beginning, I cant look up. I only look at the floor. when I move the mouse, it only spins me. Any ideas?

I have found a “work around” in that I constantly go to the menu and click invert mouse. this allows me to level my view. But the game is unplayable like this.
