plenty fast enough for a 9" netbook and linux
SSD’s are all about increased mobility, no clicking noise, less battery usage, less damage from shock
if you buy an SSD for a desktop, you’re missing the point (unless you run 2 ssd’s in raid0)

I am missing the point if I want my desktop computer to start everything faster and lowering my overall stress input I get from those heavy programs that need more than 5 seconds to start? All your arguments are only valid until SSDs aren’t that expensive anymore. We are under 2€/gb now.
they have to become faster and gain more write cycles too
They’re already much faster than mechanical drives… (and faster than SDHC )
Cost/gb and life expectancy under constant usage are the two things stopping me from buying SSDs today.
In a thread about pencil sharpeners?

So yeah, I wish magnetic drives to go away for good.
Screw R/W memory and storage. Bout time we go back to ROM. I want my os on a read only drive that cant ever be changed. Never have to wory about write cycles and fast as all hell.
We should go back to punched cards IMO.
