bug reporting run

hey BMS-devs
I’m doing a bug-catching-run now and I have 19 mostly minor bugs discovered. This are the bugs I found until I reached the office after the elevator (I hope you know what I mean).
Some of these bugs may not be bugs but I don’t know. I simply will report everything that I find strange or what is worth overlooking.

And be sure to understand that I don’t wanna critesize (?) this game (I loved it since the first minutes of playing), but I want BMS to be perfect and so my bug-run has to be perfect too ^^

So I hope you are happy about my bug reporting and lets get started:

  1. The first security guards arm movement when he opens the door of the transit-train as Gordon arrives looks strange.

through the window on the table you see an object laying a bit above a green file. For me it looks like an accident in object-placing.

  3. bm_c1a0a at: -1334 x, 1979 y, 378 z
    setpos -1334.704346 1979.768555 378.920624;setang -69.836327 2.694191 0.000000

If you stand on the keypad of the elevator and press jump, you jump slightly through the ceiling of the elevator and see the elevator shaft. It would be better if you couldn’t jump there.

  4. bm_c1a0b at: -1296 x, 1775 y, -150 z
    setpos -1296.332520 1775.684570 -150.894577;setang 37.232517 -123.356369 0.000000

If you stand in the left edge of the door before the loading screen appears, you will get stuck in the left door and only the right door will open. I tried this multiple times with the same result.

  5. bm_c1a0b at: -2378 x, 2619 y, -191 z
    setpos -2378.006592 2619.928711 -191.501160;setang 31.822901 -172.490387 0.000000

Another stuck in the door if you stand there while they are closing. Multi time testing (mtt).

  6. bm_c1a0b at: -3754 x, 1332 y, -351 z
    setpos -3754.122559 1332.031250 -351.968750;setang 7.378778 155.574829 0.000000

Right before you meet Eli you have to walk through a door that Kleiner opens for you. If you go back through that door when it closes you are stuck in this room forever with the other two scientists (mtt).

  7. bm_c1a0b at: -3573 x, 2093 y, -351 z
    setpos -3573.284912 2093.936035 -351.468750;setang 31.094082 -174.296768 0.000000

There is a clipping error in the elevator right after meeting Eli. The elevator and a trashcan are doing things I can not explain at the moment…

  8. bm_c1a1a at: 1500 x, 587 y, -499 z
    setpos 1500.394531 587.934509 -499.968750;setang 15.865055 -178.593094 0.000000

That piece of the machine in front of Gordon sinks to the ground like a feather. (And the same building piece in the background right from the gate you can not move a bit.)

  9. bm_c1a1b at: -773 x, 2225 y, 352 z
    setpos -773.171326 2225.057861 352.031250;setang 31.971672 -30.225513 0.000000

There are body parts on the floor. If you hold them they will extremely shiver.

  1. If you shoot zombies, they bleed red, and if they fall to the ground they bleed green.

  2. bm_c1a1b at: 709 x, 1262 y, 512 z
    setpos 709.679077 1262.543701 512.033813;setang 15.714547 133.660431 0.000000

This two objects have clipping error.

  3. bm_c1a1b at: -296 x, 1807 y, 544 z
    setpos -296.875610 1807.113525 544.031250;setang 21.919186 139.339203 0.000000

This zombie is shaking in the chair and you see a clipping error.

  4. bm_c1a1b at: -927 x, 1039 y, 544 z
    setpos -927.934082 1039.968750 544.031250;setang 10.449695 -31.585632 0.000000

a: Overlook the guard’s death animation.
b: The zombie in the background doesn’t bleed when you hit him.
c: The charger is not showing the charging (green liquid doesn’t move).

  5. bm_c1a1c at: -694 x, -2386 y, -1047 z
    setpos -694.610596 -2386.396729 -1047.968750;setang 43.520233 -41.454033 0.000000

a: That guy doesn’t bleed when you hit him.
(b: You can walk through the ladder.)

  6. bm_c1a1d at: -4961 x, -2404 y, -983 z
    setpos -4961.168457 -2404.628418 -983.968750;setang 5.240725 135.717941 0.000000

The charger on the left is not working.

  7. bm_c1a1e at: -3823 x, -5936 y, -3903 z
    setpos -3823.983643 -5936.031250 -3903.968750;setang 22.869438 -68.519920 0.000000

Again a charger is not working.

  8. bm_c1a1e at: -3342 x, -7546 y, -3543 z
    setpos -3342.288086 -7546.389160 -3543.968750;setang 67.087242 -168.054062 0.000000

There are objects swimming to the left or below to the right. But the water doesn’t show its flow direction animation.

  9. bm_c1a1e at: -3484 x, -7164 y, -3327 z
    setpos -3484.372559 -7164.448730 -3327.968750;setang -18.756989 156.889175 0.000000

I don’t know how to describe this, but look at the two screenshots. If you move a bit to the left or to the right, the color of the pipe and the iron shelf changes.

That’s it for the moment. Tell me if I must go on with the bug report, because for me it is an honor to help you ^^

greetings

That’s some interesting input. Nevertheless, if you could at least split them, next time (the best being that you put your input into the bug tracker directly), that’ll save a lot of work

Thanks!

The shaking zombie is intentional (demonstrates the process of transformation).
The non-working chargers might have been all used up earlier.

To “11. bm_c1a1b at: 825 x, 3986 y, 480 z”:

It appears that the chargers on the wall there have been emptied on purpose.

To “4. bm_c1a0b at: -1296 x, 1775 y, -150 z” through “7. bm_c1a0b at: -3573 x, 2093 y, -351 z”:

I’ve encountered this door issue myself before; sometimes they even open when you get stuck, but unfortunately, sometimes they do not and you do get stuck - forcing you to reload a previously saved game.

Oh, and you’re not criticising the Team by posting bug-reports, it actually helps them for future updates, to create an even better experience for all players!

That’s what this sub-forum is for!

Even if a reported bug has been posted before, as long as the difference (between your post and others) are missing “getpos” informations (for example), you’re actually providing an addition.

Believe it or not, “getpos” coordinates have a tremendous impact on locating the problem as a developer.

I know that zombie shaking is normal, I focused on the clipping in that scene.

edit: and georges, what do you mean with splitting? every bug in a new post?

and about the tracker. do the devs look more at the tracker and less this forum? and what is the advantage of the tracker? is it simple to use for me? I have no idea of that tracker at the moment…

Page mirrored on the bug traker. Issues from #72 to #93.

As it was pretty repetitive to mirror that, I might have forgotten some coordinates or so. Please let me know if you notice that kind of things

Oh and please continue discussion on related pages, thanks

should I report every PC and trashcan that you can’t carry? I can do that but I have to know if it is worth it. I’m asking because i am in a section with a few of these very minor bugs.

Why don’t you try making a video about it?

If you’re using a free version of Fraps or any other recording software that limits the recorded material’s length, try putting them together with a video editing program (whichever you like).

To “12. bm_c1a1b at: 709 x, 1262 y, 512 z”:

Just wanted to add something here…

Those clipping errors appear all the way throughout the game (pick up (almost) any phys prop (a trashcan, a computer, a can, etc.) and try putting them ontop of eachother - you can’t, they’ll just pass through.

Even one of the first seating areas (the blue ones) at the very start of actual gameplay (the one the scientist sits on), seems to be 90% non-solid - heck, you can even pass through it yourself.

It could be a performance decision, or simply a bug.

Updates or more Bug-Reports should / could tell…

I’m doing the same thing right now. I’ll run through the game again and note down all bugs that I’ve found.

Remember to note down the “getpos” coordinates, as well!

Now I am doing editing for this video. It will be the trashcan and PC carrying bugs and some other.

But should I post it here or make a new topic?

That is your decision, but since you said you wanted to add more bugs, the more you find along the path, this Thread would be appropriate (just consider it your very own ‘Bug-Journal’ ^_^).

I don’t want to sound repetitive, but the simplest way to solve bugs is by using a checklist. A bug tracker being an improved one, a forum is not really one, and would work only for a very limited number of issues. But what you advise to do, making a video, is even worse than a forum post, since it can’t be automatically parsed at all by any mean…

The one thing I’d say is a lot of these are source bugs. Like prop_physics having clipping/collision issues is just something you’re going to get with source, it can’t really be avoided. Same with ragdoll physics acting twitchy. Also, some chargers are intentionally spawned empty.

So you can see this video as a question, which bugs are worth reporting. Just tell me which bug, and I will write them in the bug tracker.
Also I don’t know if it is normal that you can’t move ladders. But this is really minor. ^^
But I went on in the game and there are a few bugs which are really worth correcting.
I will make it that way that I write it in the bugtracker AND in this thread. No one has to write bugs for me in the bugtracker from now on. ^^

can anyone look at the video and tell me which from the things I figured out are bugs.
I don’t want to write things in the bugtracker that aren’t bugs.
For example the ladders: Do the devs want the ladders to be moved or not? I’m asking because a few ladders you can move and some you can’t move.
Or the PCs which are caught in the desks?
