[BUG] Buglist

I played the game through a second time to find bugs. I wanted to share my results though I am certain some of the bugs have been reported already.

On the whole, I must say that you should consider taking a second look at Surface Tension again. The chapter misses some memorable moments from original game and has probably more bugs than the other chapters. I know a developer quit but you cannot tell me that it is such a difficult task to find another developer for this map.
Anyways, I want to present my results in detail. I have divided my list into 4 sections. Major issues should have top priority, of course. (Map-)Glitches are annoying little bugs that don’t break the game or make it a worse experience (with few exceptions). Suggestions is something you might take a look at but would only be a bonus.

MAJOR ISSUES

  • A.I. often ignores you although you are either in their view range or shooting at them.
    Example: That alien grunt in Lambda Complex in the screenshot just ignores you if you keep standing there, even if you shoot him.

  • Particle effects cause severe fps drops

  • Bad performance or engine crashes sometimes occur after reloading or after switching to windows and back to game again. In rare cases the engine is not even able to reload all textures again.

  • Balancing. Hard difficulty is barely more demanding then medium difficulty etc., see thread.

GLITCHES

  • Autoaim option is always checked in the Black Mesa Option menu after every restart of the game

  • No anti-aliasing applied to the crossbow scope view on AMD graphics cards (not sure about Nvidia with or without custum aa bits), not even SSAA which normally should work

  • If turrets have been activated and you quickload to a position nearby before the turrets have been activated, they are active anyway.
    Example: On A Rail, see MAP GLITCHES

  • Sometimes the ammo counter is red when the weapon is fully charged. Switching the weapons forth and back changes it again to yellow.

  • Sometimes the process of soldiers rappeling down the Osprey does not work perfectly and soldiers get stuck inside it, hanging in the air.

SUGGESTIONS

  • Reload sequence for magnum: Let Gordon reload just the amount that is needed in the animation sequence.

  • Apprehension: There are several places where broken electrified wires cannot harm you in any way, but here you get killed instantly. Maybe you should give a stronger visual hint here.

  • Jumping off a ladder and pressing the movement key (like e.g. runnig forward) simultaneously often does not work, this is not intuitive

  • Ensure momentum conservation for the player while jumping on some moving platforms or trains (e.g. the Inbound train), probably just an engine limitation but maybe you can fix that.
