The game works fine when I’m playing it but when I quit the proper way the screen goes blank and never returns me to my desktop or steam.
Always post your system specs when reporting an issue.
Try this for Windows 10.
Put the following in the launch options:
-windowed -noborder

For example here are my specs:
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Pro
CPU: Intel i7 3770
GPU: Asus GTX1070
RAM: 16GB
HDD: WD Black Caviar 2TB
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro (Windows installed here)
PSU: be quiet! 80+ Gold ATX 580W
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
As for the launch options:
- Open “Steam”
- Go to “Library”
- Right click on “Black Mesa”
- Click “Properties”
- In the “General” tab, click on “Set Launch Options…”
- Then copy&paste this: “-windowed -noborder” in it
- Click “OK”, start the game and close it to see if it worked.
Right click the game in your steam games list.
Click properties.
Under the general tab, click “Set Launch options”
Copy paste this:
-windowed -noborder -console
