Technically, they did announce a release date. Then they were like “lol no when its done”
I dunno which I’d prefer, personally. I’ve just been waiting for it almost since the beginning, so 
I’d prefer a surprise release, because it would give us that frequent the site a chance to DL before the internet hoards descend.
To be honest, it would probably be in the best interest of Black Mesa website to simply release unexpectedly. There would be less of a chance of a massive shutdown of the internet. Less people would be aware of it, only folks that shark the forums would know about it, and it would take that much more time for information to spread along the wires to those that have been lurking once a quarter.
So at least in theory it WOULD be good for Black Mesa eh? Less of a chance for the site to shutdown due to overload?

They should pretend to cancel the project, but in a professional manner so people really think it’s over. Then let the shitstorm commence for a while, after a few days or a week when everyone is full of rage and all sites are full of news you release the mod.

When they release it, it should be something like “Oops! Sorry, we meant “finished”. We get those words mixed up sometimes.” or something far-better-thought-out.

They should create another website and invite all the avatar’d regular with over 500 posts into there and on the day of release, they’d reveal private links just for those and let the rest of the normal newfags wrestle over the overloaded public links.
