…are you kidding me?
They focused too much on the negative, I for one liked the voice acting, they exceeded all of my expectations. I’m surprised how close the Barney voice actor got to Shapiro’s voice, that’s a very good talent. The only critique I got is the dreaded crowbar animation, it feels a little stiff. Some very memorable parts were the We’ve Got Hostiles battle, the Questionable Ethics lobby battle, and that damned Hivehand pick-up animation, just sticking his hand up it’s little bum-hole.
I give it an 11/10.
I’m pretty sure they just pointed out everything they didn’t like about the mod.
That was a pretty disappointing review, and I need to disagree with most of the points they raised.
The reviewer says otherwise, but the whole video reeks of grudge-holding. Some of the criticisms he gives are small things that he amplifies for no reason and totes them as if they are facts instead of an opinion (like how much “worse” the weapons are)
inb4 I get a message from valvetime saying how I shouldn’t comment on “professional” matters that I don’t understand.
Bad review from bad reviewers… No big deal.
Haha
He said this after he said that he didn’t harbor anything against the BM team, when clearly this isn’t the case.
Oh well, time for me to unsubscribe and move on.
I think they’re just pissed because they leaked the video and the devs took it down again.
Stupid shitheads…
IIRC Raminator retracted his takedown request and the video was put back about a week after it was taken down anyway.
They even went as far as to reply from another account saying “This review is not biased, I had nothing to do with the leak so you can trust me” while other comments below were saying “you gave better scores to random short HL2 mods wtf valvetime?”
You know when EDGE or some alternative reviewer gives a very good game a 5 to feel important and create more visits to her site/blog?
It’s rather clever, really.
WOW
“ValveTime” Objectivity? where where?
They should be ashamed of themselves, but I guess, once people realize how biased the review is, it’ll only serve to hurt their own credibility ( i hope!)
Here’s my final comment to the guy
Not that it’ll change anything, but it at least makes me feel better when you get bullshit-spewing people like this who should have at least some semblance of professionalism.
EDIT: So far it has double the dislikes, that’s a start.
I haven’t watched many of the VT videos, but I know this will be the last one I do watch.
Hi guys. Not here in any official capacity on behalf of Valvetime. I do the voice over work for the videos, and have a hand in collaboratively writing reviews as they come up. Seems to be a lot of heated discussion over the Black Mesa release, which is certainly understandable given the development time and the source material used, and I just want to at least make myself available for discussion if anyone had any particular questions about my own personal thoughts and reasons behind the review. Again, I’m not here in any official Valvetime capacity and my opinions are my own.
You should make inquiries in your team to find out why the review was so biased then, maybe you can get it taken down before it hurts Valvetime more than it already has?
I guess I’ll start. The thing I didn’t like about the video review is you spent next to no time actually explaining your opinions. Where you did, you tended to use very feeble examples to back up very wide-reaching claims. For example, “voice work was all bad, except male scientists and security guards.” The trouble here is scientists and security guards represent almost every character in the game except the HECU grunts, who really don’t say a whole lot. So, uh, wtf? (Well, I guess there are various announcement systems and radio messages, but they felt pretty believable and I don’t think you’re putting them in the same bucket).
So, I’ll ask you about one of those opinions, because I’m actually curious: what didn’t you like about the changed weapon placements, where you have to rely on the guard for a while at the start of the game? You say that the flares thing is a bad idea for introducing a new enemy, and I’m just not seeing it — particularly because that sequence is about way more than introducing a new enemy. I’ve only seen people say positive things about that, and I for one loved it :o
This review was ridiculous
He criticized the V.Acting, but was he expecting professional stuff?
Clearly, they are holding a grudge over that leak
disliked and unsuscribed.
Magnusson and Breen was a rather idiotic complaint seeing how it was explicitly stated that they won’t be included. Weapon placement was not a problem as well.
Which is rather sad because they did bring up quite a few valid points that get lost along the way while they chose to shoot themselves in the foot with crap like this.
You’d think they’d tread more carefully with the leak shitstorm - yet they continue to discredit themselves.
Prepare to get flamed, that’s all I can say
