BLACK MESA - THE BAND

Hello all.

I’ve been a follower of the mod for some time now, but have never posted on these forums before. I’m a music student studying in Essex, UK, and with my fellow college band mates we have performed under the name ‘Black Mesa’ for almost a year now.

Our music is largely unconnected with the Half-Life series, although we do have a song titled ‘Headcrab’. We hoped that you guys might be able to indulge in our auditory wares. You can watch a whole set of ours that we performed recently here:

We’d love to know what you think. All criticism welcome! As musicians we need to know what we can improve on

You can find us on facebook here:

And on our website here:

P.S - I ought to mention our genre of music (although I dislike labels). We have melded Progressive Metal, Rock, Funk, Jazz and Rap together. Or something to that effect!

Do you by any chance have some higher quality recordings available? It actually does sound very promising but I really can’t bring myself to listen to cell phone recordings for more than a minute or so. What with the first world problems and all.

I’m afraid we don’t have any studio recordings mixed at present. We have recorded a few numbers but they still need mixing. This is something we hope to rectify in the coming weeks.

Thanks for your feedback though. That recording was filmed with a handycam of sorts on a tripod at the rear of the hall. I know the sound quality isn’t great for which I apologise for :frowning:

I’m afraid all I can offer is the following recording in which you get to see our mugs in greater detail- the sound quality is a little better too, you can just listen to the sound of the recording rather than the video if you liked- I know mobile phone recordings are naff:

Shame you’re not a girl. I’d make a whole host of unfunny jokes about Essex girls.
:3

Ahaha, I’ve heard 'em all.

I’ll make sure to keep an eye out for when you do. From what I’ve heard I can safely say you’ll be on my playlist. I hope you don’t mind sharing space with Tool, APC, Cire and the like.
I’ll make sure not to hold my breath though, what with the name and all.

Hey, you can’t start a band in a studio, can you :stuck_out_tongue:

The first video was actually better sound quality wise :3

Out of curiosity, what are your favourite bands?

Thanks very much for the kind words and feedback

We are influenced by a number of bands, a short list would be; Alice in Chains, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Alter Bridge, Primus, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Opeth and RHCP.

I’m hoping to get into the college studio tomorrow to mix a few of our tracks, so will post them here when I have some mp3’s available

Music nowadays is so diverse and bands so unique there’s really no way to give any feedback whatsoever, it’s all subjective. While I like experiments with multiple themes in one song, others call it a cacophony. That and the lack of any musical education keeps me from expressing my thoughts on a level deeper than the usual ‘like/don’t like’. Nevertheless, you’re welcome, I guess.

Thanks. This is actually an interesting selection. While it does make perfect sense, I must admit, there are some names I didn’t quite expect.

No sweat. You’d never guess, I know, but I’m not short on patience.

P.S. Good thing you included that P.S. in OP. I’m used to seeing electronic music posted here almost exclusively so I was about to skip the thread. I actually did a double take at that last line.

What’s with all the whipping your hair around?

Lol some people like to do that. Good music by the way.
