Black Mesa-ish Remake for Half Life 2

Why not on Frostbite 3?.

I’d like to see a remake of Half-Life 2 on the CryEngine 3 or something, which has the ability to make great natural environments as seen in Crysis. And since Half-Life 2 occurs in many non-urban places outside I think it would be worth creating an amazing environment with this engine. I always thought the maps in Sandtraps were very plain when you drive the buggy, there are only huge fields of plain grass/sand textures without anything interesting to see.

If there was a remake of HL2, I doubt they would really have to do anything but add to what is already there.

Windows that aren’t drawn on, better sky boxes, more polygons, etc.

I would play Cinematic mod if they didn’t mess with the character looks so much.

Wait for Cinematic Mod v11 Light Edition and you will get what you want.

To answer the OP’s question…wait 12 years.

Fuck yeah, man. …But how about the new id Tech 5 engine?

Example: Watch the first video that plays when it loads

i agree about the remake of HL2, but only with some new engine like cryengine 3, unreal engine 3 or source engine 2.
and id tech 5 also

I’d just like to point out that Half-Life 2 is now older than Half-Life 1 was when BM started!

But the engines really haven’t improved as much as they have between HL1 & 2. Many recent releasesdon’t even manage to match HL2’s physics.

Theres no need for Half Life 2 remake yet … maybe with HL3 engine

So, Source Engine? There won’t be one until the new console generation comes.

I honestly think the Cinematic Mod would be good enough. He just needs to make high-def versions of the original character models and it would be perfect… aside from the obnoxious soundtrack from time to time.

I think HL2 could use an update, but not a ground-up one like Black Mesa. An in-engine upgrade would be fine. Think Cinematic Mod with a modicum of taste. Better textures, higher poly models, more “clutter”/details etc. Just not shitty like CM.

Or when Episode 3/HL3 comes out, a HL: Source type port in addition to the above. But there’s no need remaking the game from scratch.

HL2 already got one after the Orange Box

Yeah but thats not enough :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t get why people keep complaining that there isn’t enough “clutter” in HL2. The places everyone complains about being too empty are exactly the kinds of places that SHOULD be empty, like the coast or the canals.

Facial animation isn’t good, rubber-chin being a major flaw. Environmental detail is astounding, though.

Havok is used in a bunch of games, although Source’s havok has been modified.

Yeah when pigs fly and duke nukem forever 2 has been released. :’(

HL2 will not be remade as long as there are retail games that look crappier than it.

[b]IN THE DISTANT PAST OF 2004, A THREAD “Half life 1 remake?” IS POSTED IN A HALF LIFE FANSITE

hehehehe

Maybe a ballsy mod team will begin remaking HL2 in something like 5 years. Now is too soon.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
