There’s always one…
fuck yes. I waited for this.
HL3?
Pffft fuggedaboutit valve- this is it!
i’m just encountering the hgrunts before the ride up to the surface…I’m totally immersed and blown away by the level of commitment here. I have a friend who played tag-team HL1 in my recroom way back in the day, I invited him over for a rerun a la BMS and the look of terror on his face after the resonance cascade was priceless. That initial ambience just sets off all the alarms, and it hasn’t let up yet! amazing.
Couple of glitches to mention, idk if it’s because he’s not an avid gamer, but my friend found a way to get stuck on top of the rotating elevator on the way to the test chamber, had to sv_gravity 100 outta there; and I crashed twice in the meat locker section, forcing hard boot. Been good after that tho!
Oh and the soundtrack is top shelf too, really heightens the tension. beautiful job
oops dbl post
…When did I complain about it?
We have pitched a bitch over the years about when… We have harrassed and made comments out of frustration… and now that its out, The only thing we are able to say is sorry AND THANK YOU! Game Rocks, im loving it and its amazing. one quick question any chance (im sure u heared this allot already) for multiplayer?
YES, it is CONFIRMED that Black Mesa Deathmatch is next after the Xen stages.
Hey guys, Onboarderror is playing Black Mesa live! - if any of you still don’t know: https://www.twitch.tv/bms_onboarderror
Btw, when can we expect the first bug fix? - Oh, yeah: “When it’s done!” okay, okay…
Just finished the game. The top of the Lambda reactor is fucking beautiful. I found myself watching all the machinery and continually being raped by the controllers. Well done!
So, I finally finished Black Mesa and despite the some minor bugs and performance issues, this is the mod we all dreamed of and waited for. The dark and brooding tone conjures up a new perspective on how the game can be viewed, the stellar soundtrack punctuates this, the level design is fantastic and the gameplay is distinctly Half-Life in all it’s glory. Which brings me to my first point, the gameplay is cuddling hard as hell and it’s perfect that it is. The developers seem to have a great understanding of the fact that Half-Life was very much a product of it’s time in that it is reflective of a time when shooters didn’t hold you by the crab claw the whole way through, you make do with what you have, or you die. And you will definitely die a lot in this game, but each time you succeed you will have the biggest grin on your face much like every time you played the original. Every firefight with the HECU soldiers in the game is gruelling but rewarding, and our favorite alien adversaries are back and in top form. The vortigaunts pack a punch with each electrical charge taking away much more health than before, the houndeyes are significantly more challenging as when they are in packs you pretty much have to run like hell and shoot fast because you’ll need a great amount of health packs after dealing with them. The headcrab zombies are more intimidating than ever as the astonishing level of detail put into them will make you simultaneously shit yourself and splooge in your pants in absolute awe.
The voice acting is stellar too, bringing about a sense of life in this game’s world more so than how the original did. There’s also thousands of lines of new dialogue too, more so than even Half-Life 2’s amount of dialogue, a welcome treat for anyone who’s played the original before. It really build upon the immersion in a fantastic way. The level design is at the same time fresh and familiar, Black Mesa manages to find a great balance between nostalgia and discovery. As I said before, the soundtrack brings about a new tone which makes the game’s story feel a bit darker, the sense of dread when you know the horrors of what’s to become of the black mesa facility and the world beyond until the events of Half-Life 2. This tone completely works in the context of a remake and is absolutely excellent to listen to as the events unfold. If there’s anything I can complain about, it’s the fact that the game leaves off at possibly the most exciting point, when you literally jump into the portal to Xen, and with everything in Black Mesa being so excellent that ending to be continued in the credits makes the wait for the standalone Xen release that much harder to bare. It brings about a sense of excitement while at the same time Xen is the portion of the game that is very divisive among the Half-Life fanbase. It’ll be interesting to see if they’re able to make Xen unanimously agreed upon as excellent. Another complaint that I have is performance, during a few of the early parts of the game it was rather stuttery, not game breaking but noticeable, however in Blast Pit my frame-rate took a nosedive. That could just be my individual experience however, since a lot of people have had no issues in that regard. I’m sure any issues will more than likely be patched within the coming weeks.
Overall. Black Mesa is a triumph, after eight years of development it is exactly the type of remake that we wanted it to be, all the little details bring this world alive in a way that is only possible in 2012. This is the quintessential version of Half-Life. Long live the Freeman.
10/10.
Completed it, Awesome!
Lol, dang dude, get a grip. It’s a quote from a song. I’m willing to bet it’s way before your time. So, you would’nt get it. And yes ,I did mean Xen and BMDM, the CHAPTERS.
God, when is this mod going to be released? I’ve waited like six months for this. I’m totally writing this off as dead on my blog.
Oh wait…
Lol, thanks for the ride guys, it’s been quite a trip. Years of hard work have finally come to fruition, deserving of the highest praise.
Thank you for bringing back a classic. It is indeed awesome.
Just finished yesterday. My computer couldn’t handle the sheer amount of awesome at the end of Lambda Core. I had to face the wall in order to prevent massive amounts of chugging. Just basically long-jumped in a fucking circle until I had to dive into the portal. I never laughed so hard.
I’ve been following this mod for years, checking up on it every couple of months for several years. Every time, I’d try to see when this mod was going to be released.
Just gave up beginning of 2012; but lo and behold, you should have seen the look of disbelief I had when I got home on Friday and there was a Steam Community notification waiting for me! “Oh, just a community notification. Better get rid of- What.”
Pretty much canceled my plans for the entire weekend. I played through all of it and just finished it 30 minutes ago, trying to savor it all and remember the original at the same time! I can’t tell you guys how thrilled I am to see this thing come true! So gorgeous, packed with grit, glow, story, and kickass shit!
Just so you know, I and many others (from what I can see on the thread) SUPER appreciate ALL of you guys’ hard work and dedication! Gameplay, atmosphere, soundtrack, dialogue, animations, enemies, weapons, scenes, all just fantastic. Can’t wait for Xen, but “you owe us nothing”, just like Freeman at the end of the game. Party on, BM dev team!
Im just waiting for VALVe to have a speakabout about this
Shame on me, I only found out this morning.
I am downloading right now, and I don’t plan to do anything else but play this and work for the next day or 3. Half life 1 definitely still is in my top5 memorable games ever.
Thanks so much for this, you made so many people so very happy ! Actually as somebody else said : Thrilled. Absolutely thrilled.
Oh, and BTW. At the end of Questionable Ethics… when the scientists tell you to go outside to have a look. The music starts. I was like:
Cant wait! - just finished downloading! truly EPIC! Thank you!
I finish the game just now.
Guys, THANK YOU. Really, it’s fantastic, your job it’s GODLIKE.
