Black Mesa Classic Weapons

It’s VERY much alive. Beta testing has been made available for download and an additional release of more of Xen has taken place just recently. You can find more info at Steam and on Crowbar Collective’s Discord channel

The dev team usually hangs out over at the Steam forums as well as Discord.

Oooh I think Kamez meant the Classic Weapons pack, not Black Mesa itself! But thanks for the info man. I still haven’t played Xen…waiting on this weapons pack so I can do a brand new playthrough from start to finish.

I know that Black Mesa is alive. I meant classic weapons mod. It’s in development since 2014 and I’d be devastated if the classic weapons mod was abandoned.

It’s still getting work done. Just yesterday I updated the HUD icons, and Game Zombie worked on the shotgun sequences a few days before that.

Any estimate on when we’ll be able to play with these bad boys?

Hopefully by the end of this decade

I decided to boot up some Black Mesa to pass the time the other day but I immediately turned it off. I can’t look at the vanilla weapon models anymore! I can’t do it! They hurt my eyes!!

Just been looking at material for the 357…

Looking at MMod it seems fine but people demo weapons standing still most of the time… Just trying to figure out what is causing the popping of light on models. HL2 model does not do this in a huge way so it is somethibg that is extra addition to HL2 default.

Not sure the issue is with black mesa or material setup or both. Just have a feeling that reflections and how it reacts to light should be simpler or muted but the texture should perhaps be brighter also to offset how much it changes between light and dark areas.

I really don’t know about this stuff to be honest but i am sure that there is something wrong with lighting and how viewmodels react.

I hope that this will release soon. I’m so hyped, that I’m visiting this thread every day!

Remembered this one question I’ve been wanting to ask.

In the original Half-Life, the crossbow fires regular ol’ reliable, sturdy crossbow bolts. In Black Mesa, for some reason, the devs heard the line “there’s a tranquilizer gun in the shark cage” and turned the bolt into this silly looking, stuby glowing green syringe thing and…I really hate it. Is this pack going to use a regular bolt or that?

Then there would be no reason to have crossbow in BMRF. It would be much easier for scientists/guards to have sniper rifle instead.

Well, no, as stated in the game itself the crossbow was probably intended by the scientists and wranglers going into Xen as a way to put down or tether big alien species. And a crossbow as your ranged weapon is kind of a Half Life series staple so it’s kind of moot. That wasn’t what I was asking anyway.

Edit: Missread what you said. I still think the big tranquilizer dart looks silly and aesthetically out of place. There’s a time and place for verisimilitude and I don’t think anyone really cared that the crossbow launched regular bolts.

You’ve made my whole damn day, week, month, and year. I love it!

It’s not a tranquilizer, it’s a poisonous neuro toxin. That’s why the bolts have such high damage.

How far are we from the finish line? (By that, I mean is there a set date that this will be released by?)
