Black Mesa: Blueshift

It’s all WIP

@ Pauolo: well it’s some time ago I played the mod, so I cannot remember exactly what I did when in those mod

I understand, I’ve replayed parts of it recently. Shame the Steam version doesn’t stick to the original, with the blue HUD and soundtracks from OP4. :frowning:

Well, you could use that example I posted awhile back, just improved by someone who actually has some mapping skills. There’s loads of textures that you can slap together to make something of. I can post some examples of some of the textures I’ve tried out later. It’s brushes, but it looks way better than CSS’s models, at least in my opinion.

I can’t have mine that low.

Telling you brah: every week this doesn’t come out = a year delay on BMS :open_mouth:

Just kidding, great work so far

I meant more along the lines of all brush work with the double jointed train_005’s (although getting a hold of an extended version of that would be better, actually that’d be perfect). The low quality is just because it’s an example and I’m terrible at brush work (I’m not even a mapper, I’ve just figured out how to draw brushes and put textures on faces :stuck_out_tongue: ), I’m not actually suggesting you tone down the quality. Instead you actually could tone it up since unlike me, you actually know well what you are doing and how to make it look good.

All that aside, I’m just not a fan of CSS’s models, they were heavily distorted to fit the map they were created for (de_train) but ended up being used in other places because they were the only 2004 source western train models there were. It’s a shame because the only good train cars come from Left 4 Dead, which you probably don’t have legal access to. Even the flatcar is all wrong, since they’re supposed to be low, wide, and flat (it’s tall, thin, and has those edges)

In the end, I think it’d be better for you to just have the modeller wip up some new trains, or just brush up some trains instead. They’re not overly complex and you could likely get away with it while still having it look map worthy. Plus if you brush up, then the difference between the model trains and brush trains is much less… completely different!

Or just type it into Google :p.

Out of curiosity, when did you joined the BM team?
I believe I’ve never seen your nickname on the team page, or I’m just extremely blind.

I get pretty power hungry so looks like Xen will never be released

I might actually just use the left 4 dead ones, mods use source content all the time and im sure if it’s just the train models their shouldn’t be any issues

By chance you’re a fan of trains?

You could say that, yeah. Trains are cool as fuck.

Yes they are.

Is this to your liking Mr. Someguy? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll roll with l4d trains for now, if issues arise i can just get them modeled.

It looks nice indeed, amazing!

Really want to get my hands on this…

When this puppy is released, we gonna see some serious sh*t…

Well not including the Xen bits I have about 7 or 8 maps left to do lol soo progress is good i guess!

Almost ready for release!

Looks great! Much much much better than CSS models for sure!

The only potential issue I can see right here is the way L4D handled textures for certain props. Zombies, Cars, and as you can see, the Boxcar. The issue is, the way it was done, was they used a base texture (white, with dirt, shading, etc). Then a coloured texture over the white (red, green, blue, orange, etc). That decreased the texture memory, but in terms of using models in the other games… Well, I’m not sure how to get it to work, I don’t think this version of Source supports it. You might need to get them re-textured.

They work fine at the moment. Only issue is that they are brown lol

Oh, they are brown? In the screenshot they’re white (the base colour). Brown (assuming you mean they are coloured brown, rather than the entire texture being glitched) isn’t a bad colour for a train car. It’s pretty common, up there with dark red.

If you’re able to rip the materials for those traincars, I would be glad to at least add some Black Mesa Logos and Serial numbers on some of them.
