Black Mesa 2009 Update

I think the lack of it being based on any substance what so ever.
EDIT :ninja:ed

Yes i know ITS A MOD! but its not a typical mod is it. Its been in development for around 6 years and their recreating a full game to a high degree, and from what i see the quality is very high compared to other mods out there. So i wouldn’t say its a typical mod, which is where i got my crazy crazy idea that there might be a slight possibility for it.

This.

Except that there’s not a possibility for it. It’s been discussed to death already. Not only do the devs not want the mod to be sold, but even if they did, Valve could not buy it from them because everyone who submitted content to the mod would also have to give consent to use their content.

The only way around that would be for Valve to remove all content not agreed upon by their original creators.

This also includes packaging the mod with other games in a retail package.

In theory, they could include Black Mesa in a package akin to the Orange Box. They would not be selling it per sé, but in stead just including it in the package, while keeping it freely downloadable on the internet.

Hmm… Sounds like a legal gray area to me. :stuck_out_tongue:

I suppose if they had the team’s consent it would rule out any legal hassles.

Lol why are we discussing this?

Why not? This thread pretty much ended in terms of concrete discussion material in early December, and with the secrecy of the dev team combined with the gestapo-like brutality of the moderation on the forums, wild speculation that is left unchecked like this is entertaining.

A lot of forum regulars and other not so frequent posters have been anticipating the mod’s eventual release since the beginning, or at least for several years. At a certain point there isn’t really a reason to keep posting in threads asking for the release date, or invariably devolving into

“What’s your favorite part of half life?”
“I like the part with the crowbar”
“Yeah, the crowbar is pretty cool”
“I also like the part with the guns”
“Yeah, I like half life!”
“I like half life too!”
“Gordan is awesome!”
“It’s Gordon, moron!”

I am reading all this stuff about Valve adding Black Mesa to another one of their releases and to be honest, you can pretty much sure that wont be happening anytime soon. Hell, I predict Halflife 4 will be out before the release of Black Mesa. Well, at least that what I have told myself since I have been waiting for this mod for the past 2 years.

Don’t get me wrong, I am trying to wait patiently, I really am. I just felt this was a good time to post one of my first posts.

Peace, Defender

P.S. Someone really outta update the Black Mesa Steam Group to at least give the appearance of activity within the group.

Oh come on. You’re telling me that a mod that’s been in development for over 5 years now will be released after a game that won’t be in development for at least several years if not more? And you’ve been waiting two years? That’s nothing compared to some of us (myself included). Stop being pessimistic. Also, welcome to the forums!

You know, I only suggested that BMS might be available via STEAM. I didn’t suggest it would be bundled with Ep3 in some conspiracy with Valve (

Actually that is what “when its done” means - They will take until June at least. I think that the mod will come out in september (this year)
Also this mod is getting way too much attention ,which is slowing down its development and raising expectations for this mod. I have started checking black mesa website on monthly basis.

this is what I think[/SIZE]

June would be a great time, as that’s when I’m getting my new computer.

ah, no. see it more like a satire on the guy above me with a similar question.

No, “when it’s done” means just what it sounds like, it will be done when it is done. That means it could be released anytime between now and the end of time.

There’s loads of new idiots on this forum who used to say “wen is this mod comin?” and now they think they know everything.

Anyway…

Oh no, I meant June 2009.

But that’s-

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
