You mean like:
The intersubjective modality of the symbolic use of white is to transpose a dualistic interpretation of reification relating to the post-Romantic, Kantian dialecticals.
God, I hate that crap.

That… was amazing. I have to say, just seeing that (even if it is a pre-pre-alpha-predevalpha image) gave me as big a sense of amazement as the dam shot did, maybe even more. If Xen looks even SLIGHTLY like that, I would be so amazingly pleased. It would be… amazing.
Due to the fact i only just heard about this mod i guess i can wait a bit longer
So, if this is on when it’s done status, does that mean the team cannot estimate a window of time that would be needed apply whatever fixes/updates/implementation designs? I test for another mod, and they recently extended the testing hiatus we are on in lieu of not having enough testers. If that is not the case with BMS though then what is stopping the community from losing trust/faith in the team to get this done in time? It’s been 5 years, I’m not complaining at all, but I sometimes wonder if BMS is going to ever be done. Typical doubt I suppose.
If the rest of the team is not discouraged by the pushing back of the release date how does that reflect on their drive to finish this product? Just a couple of questions I would like to know the answer to.
The devs of Black Mesa have always gone by the “when it’s done” approach, but were really shooting for a 2009 release. It was a goal they wanted to reach, but (per this update) seemingly won’t be able to achieve. I think we (the community) have “faith” in the team because we actually get to know some of them and see their dedication. And every once and a while, they throw little bits of media at us directly on these forums, so we end up seeing progression of the design as time goes on. If they really are working as mercilessly as I (and many others) believe they are, we’ll hopefully be seeing a release in the near future.
woah there! o.o no orgasming on the forums, its such a mess to clean up :3
anyway… that does look pretty schweet!
While disappointing, this doesn’t come as a shock to me. It seems the developers have troubles with real life and deadlines on their modding hobby. Most of the reason this game has taking so long is its a Hobby and will not make them rich, money is always a good motivator.
Basically all they get is fame, which isn’t the same as cash, and since most of these guys are already in the gaming industry, there isn’t even a job motivation.
That being said I disagree with the posters claiming they owe NOTHING. That is not true. They decided to make the mod development PUBLIC, they decided to create a fanbase for the release of this game and in doing so have a responsibility to the Fanbase to keep them informed. While none of us are on the mod team and as such do not need to know the privy details, we are entitled to know a new release date and possibly some information on the cause of the delay. This due in part because of a FIRM release date giving, and while technically it isn’t owed, it’s common respect and courteousy to not leave loyal fans hanging.
We see how the gaming community of other paid for games treat their fans or clients (Atari) and while not being a paid for game, the mere existence of this community based around the mod invokes a minor responsibility to keep the followers informed with a little less vagueness and little more details. Especially when the notification was last minute in an almost literal way.
That being said I hope in the near future we will have a new release date and hopefully the developers will have the honor to try to keep it above all else. I know in society today people rarely keep their word or finish productions on time. There was a time back about 50+ years ago when developers were proud of finishing a project on time and under budget, today we see the throw away society and the decadent attitude that goes with it.
So nothing is physically owed, but morally it is, then if you don’t believe in morals, honor etc, then none of it matters. lol But that person isn’t a very pleasant person to be around and would be little benefit to anyone but themselves…
To the team good luck on your next release date, and please for pity sake try to really keep it even if you have to do some sleepless nights and give that 110% and not just 75%. No slackers please.
You should post that on youtube, since most people here are aware of that.
The devs did do their best to get it out by the release date, but unfortunately today people need to prioritize between working on a completely unpaid project and keeping themselves from being made dead.
Using the whole “back then yada pride on underbudget and on time” example doesn’t really apply considering back then they were still paid. But these people aren’t paid, and their doing something huge. Give 'em a break, even if you don’t agree that they owe allmighty you everything.
Because, generally, if somebody tells me “I owe them,” it’s only if they’ve ever helped me. I know I haven’t done anything for the Black Mesa team. What have YOU done?
Final statement: What have we done for them that they owe us anything?
Note: This has become a generalized response to all the “The devs owe us” posters as opposed to a targeted one, lol.
That’s like saying “the doctors did everything they could to save the man” when the man actually was saved.
Not contradictory, but goes without saying.
You never know. The doctor could secretly be an assassin.
And Ram is really creating a bug in each map so that the game crashes on loading of a new level for everyone outside of Australia.
^Jambo deserves this more than anyone OUTSIDE Australia.
I agree with this, but not in a hostile way, more of a “too bad so sad” sort of way. I would’ve appreciated finally seeing a mod with such awesome content be released the year the team says it will, but it isn’t the first time I’ve seen such a thing like this happen. It’s just the way mod dev teams are, it’s not a #1 priority so you know it takes the backburner occasionally to more important things.
If you ask me, this is an ignorant perspective. You’re just going to accept that it’ll be done, and not question anything? It sounds like you don’t care if they value your community efforts, because if you have helped the community out then they do owe you something. If you’re like me and have just been lurking/waiting then no I can’t really say they do owe me anything other than a released product whenever it is done because they have committed to making one. No offense though, I’m sure you’re not an arrogant bastard or anything, you just have enough faith in the team to get it done without questioning them. Which is great if you don’t mind being in the dark, but like my previous quote is trying to say, some people like to be enlightened when they are told there is a release deadline and then the deadline is slashed.
No biggie. We’ve waited this long, we can wait a bit longer. Will still be the most exquisite, delightful and enchanting mod released to date.
Toodle-hoo!
I agree with you on a few points, and I do believe I may have skimmed your earlier post the first time, so forgive me if I missed some points.
I would love nothing more than to know why the delay was or a new release date, but I also see reason why they wouldn’t let us know. Well, the release date part anyway, I really don’t see the harm in us knowing why it was delayed, UNLESS it has to do with something they’ve vowed not to speak about (Xen, perhaps). For the release date, they understand that life gets in the way more often than most people like, and to commit to another day would just invite more criticism by harsher forum-goers and people-who-found-out-about-it-that-day-ers (not calling you either one, just saying that both exist). Its good enough for me to know that it will come out someday. And I don’t even KNOW that, I believe that. Why? Because to keep a hoax like this going for… however many years, would take an UNBELIEVABLE amount of energy, probably just as much as it would to make the damned thing.
Edit: Yay, it’s snowing again today!
that was an awesome xen shoot!
if it will be really like that it would be really cool!
tbh, that picture doesn’t look too different from HL :s ource. I’m sure BM’s xen will be loads cooler. :3
That’s what I was thinking…
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
