BioShock Infinite

Huge spoilers up in here.

It was quite clear to me in most respects, but some things are up to debate, most notably [color=’#171717’]whether or not Booker gets a happy ending; you never actually see if Anna’s in the cradle or not, and it’s not clear if the ending scene is from Player!Booker’s perspective or what. I’ve seen a lot of differing ideas about this.

[color=’#171717’]Uh… what about the flying city and the girl who got powers because her pinky was in another dimension and the infinite number of lighthouses that are portals to everywhere in time and space made you conclude that the game was supposed to be scientifically accurate? I mean, I’m not trying to be rude, but I got the impression that the devs were inventing their own rules of space and time in order to tell the story with.

next forum update needs to get rid of this fucking gradient.

I actually like the gradient.
A spoiler tag would be more useful.

I didn’t say I wanted it to be accurate, I only pointed it out cause I thought it might’ve been confusing to you.

I just noticed veni vidi vigor machine texture is all hand drawn looking. heh.

Did you notice the vending machine shout-out to Bioshock?

“Return when you’ve got some currency, fella!”

“I appreciate a lady who appreciates valuuuuueeeee!”
yeah :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, I think it’s pretty funny how slapped together the kinetiscopes are. Like, whenever the camera moves it’s the jerkiest shittiest mouse movement.

That might’ve been intentional, like how a lot of the sounds from loudspeakers and patriots and things have a tinny, crackly effect to them.

Oh, not that. I mean that the kinetiscope videos are so obviously just recordings of gameplay.

if some lucky one would like Infinite for free could try this:

Thanks, I’ll actually enter that.

Also, nice referral link.

I finally found the time to finish the game.

I’m blown away. Ken Levine is a freakin’ genious. :awesome:

What would happen if Valve and Irrational made a game together?

A possible conflict of interests and an often delayed game. Just because two companies are great at making somewhat similar games doesn’t mean they’ll work well together.

But I think Jack has a point: Irrational are the strongest on the artistic and writing side, while Valve, while indeed makers of top-notch games with awesome storytelling that we all love, are surely more powerful on the tech side than the former.
Slight differences, but if you imagine to combine the strongest point of each… :awesome:

Maybe if the fabled Source 2 is at least as powerful as the UE3 you may have a point there.

So far Valve have only outsourced projects to small indie studios (Gearbox back in the day, the late Ritual, Turtle Rock Studios, Hidden Path Entertainment) that were probably at ease working with such a relaxed development philosophy but Irrational is a big studio that works on a more traditional structure with a well defined hierarchy and schedules, so the two actually working together on a big game would either result in disaster or one of the studios having to adapt to the other’s style.

If Irrational did the storytelling but requested levels and art assets from Valve as they needed them, it seems like it might work. But it’s not really something I’m eager to see tried.

Speaking of which, has there ever been any proper joint projects like this in the gaming industry?

Bungie and naughty dog got together for a bit to swap some tricks for Uncharted 2 and Halo Reach but I think that’s it.

Proof?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
