BBMIP 2.0

So I have taken some time off after the big push this year with finishing all the redos and odd jobs for release and now I have gotten back into learning more about some new programs I’ve purchased. I bought the web tutorials from Gnomon and have been referencing them while practicing on some maps. World machine is pretty complex but very powerful, there are lots of neat effects you can get with some practice (and some luck !) This is my first full non-tutorial attempt at some terrain. Texture is @ 2k.

This is the same model just about 95% smaller poly wise rendered in toolbag.

One of the tutorial files that I have edited to make something Black Mesa-y,

good lawd those look sexy

I imagine these would be open skyboxes for the topside areas?

That’s cool man! With that program, you and the others can make some Xen parts interesting. Keep it up!

P.S. I agree with that terrain as a 3D Skybox for Surface Tension (I wish they can bring back those mountains in the skyboxes from Half-Life 1 — GoldSource version)

Chon placed the skybox model for me as a quick test (ie not perfect).

Looks great though.

Wow, those are really impressive results - I can imagine very nice updates coming out of this for stuff that’s simply not possible with the current displacement system.

Would you happen to know if there’s a trial version of World Machine, and if so, if it’s time-limited? I’m on a tight budget right now, but I’d like to try this out and maybe use the results in a map I’m working on.

Seems like the trial is limited to dimensions of 513x513, and the use of the basic edition is under the condition that the output may not be used in a commercial project in any way.

There’s certainly potential there.

The trial is also limited in the number of threads it will use to calculate things which really speeds up the process. The hobby addition is only 100 but if you want to use it for anything you need the pro license.

8o Wow… Will these cool skyboxes be included in the game at a later date? It would be awesome  Well :?: [/size]

You will have to wait and see. No promises.
