Half-Life Blue Shift ended at the Apprehension chapter where gordon is captured and tried to be killed by grunts in a trash compactor. I’m saying after Barney and other scientists escaped, they could have gone somewhere near or in the Lambda Complex.
I blame the Gman… the gman is messing with us again. Seriously how on earth did Barney know that he owed freeman a beer when barney did not interact with freeman that day? but at the same time barney was guarding the door to the lab. for me he promised me 3, 3 barneys owed me a beer. that means i get 3 beers but playing blue shift as the real barney i did not promise anyone a beer. so is the hl2 barney yet another barney? So, is there multiple barneys? Clone barneys that share one database and know everything that every barney knows? Oh and what if barney is the gman from a younger time!? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!!!

Hello, i’ve read somewhere here, that the gearbox add-ons doesn’t count/are not ‘‘canon’’…
So, why should the guy banging on the door be barney calhoun? All guards in Half Life are more or less Barney Calhoun for me. Even the npc model is named Barney, if i’m correct. Thats all.

The main mess up point is where when playing blue shift you are indeed playing the role of Barney Calhoun, and you see freeman pass you on the tram when you cant open the door. In HL2 barney mentions the promise to you. In blue shift you never interact with freeman at all in the blue shift story (besides looking at him). But wait, in the intro to HL1 barney never looks at you! So, we can just look at all the small things and waist time arguing and analyzing it or we can just accept that it is just a small fun reference to HL1 time period. Don’t get me wrong, it is fun and interesting to talk about and it is a bit funny. But for the people that cant sleep thinking about this mysterious event just calm down and take a deep breath, and just keep it at a reference.

You’re overthinking things as if what happens in the Half-Life games is all that ever happened to these characters. Alyx mentions in Ep 1 Barney and Gordon racing in air vents, but the two of you never do that in the game. Ergo, that event, and by extension of logic, the beer promise, happened sometime before the events of the game when the two goofballs were palling around at the office.

No, we should be able to play all of Gordon’s life from a baby. It would be way more immersive.
One of the contradictions is that in HL, you see Calhoun banging on the door ALREADY with his helmet, while in BS, you go to acquire your vest and helmet.

I thought he would turn up to the player and maybe say Hey catch me later and I’ll buy you a beer! or just look at gordon. that would be AWESOME!!! 
I’m not telling any of you what I do in the game. You’ll just have to wait and see.
All of this discussion is based on personal speculation. It doesn’t really matter which Barney is “the” barney, you guys are thinking way too deep into this.
