Atomic PC - BM Preview

Did you even read, the quotes I posted?

The journalists who played the mod played an old build stage of the mod. They didn’t play the recent build.

Let’s not take this to the extreme either. It’s not a concept build or early 2005 alpha build, it’s from 2009/2010. There obviously are a number of game assets and shaders that aren’t yet finished (like the green goo), and there’s some pretty bad jpeg compression in some of those screenshots, but other than that I think it’s a fairly accurate representation of BMS’ current look.

And I’m pleased :expressionless:

People, stop speculating and enjoy the suspense! I’m sure the end product will be great, no matter what.

Enjoy the suspense?! Alfred Hitchcock himself would’ve cut the tension by now!

And why they appeared now? if is not recent?

It is recent. This is, as they put it, the “current alpha build.” Not all of the work was up-to-date, but the vast majority of it was. The thing that we have to remember here, though, is that most of those maps were rendered using a quick compile, so the lighting and some other things aren’t properly represented in these shots.

And of course if this were final quality, we’d have the mod with us now, along with all the screenshots.

Yes, I’m sure were all going to be just as dissapointed when we find out that when black mesa is released it won’t look any better than the 2006 alpha did.

I don’t really want it to.

Raminator is right. A lot of people here are going to end up raging and disappointed at how Black Mesa isn’t the second coming of the Christ and doesn’t look as good as it could.

As for me, I think I’ll enjoy making fun of those people as much as I’ll enjoy the mod.

Even if those shots from alpha, it’s great anyway! Now I can really see that mod isn’t dead.
BUT, one thing looks strange. Why devs promised us release date in the end of 2009, and now on the timeline we can see

That’s so frustrating… Probably, Portal 2 will be released earlier than BMS…

That was made many months ago

Victoria, the reason why people keep posting the same shit over and over and over again, as well as why you all have to answer the same questions over and over again is that this forum is badly structured and it’s impossible for users to make any “headway” in it.

Suggestions are made in “Got a question?” thread; questions are asked in “Suggestions” thread. We have thread for minor suggestions, yet people are suggesting huge things in it. When they want to suggest something small, they create their own thread, yet no-one merges it with the minor suggestions thread.

Announcement threads are open for discussion, while discussion threads are being locked.
When a moron creates a thread, it is locked and kept for eternal display in the same board where it was, instead of being moved to some “pit of oblivion” or, even better, deleted.

Moderators are using foul languages and instead of silently moderating (via deletes and tempa-bans) are polluting the threads with threats of banning (“The next asshole who posts xyz will be tempbanned” – what’s the logic in that? It’s like “Dear daughter, I’m terribly dissapointed that you got pregnant at the disco, and I warn you! The next time you do that, you’ll be grounded for the whole year!”)

My suggestion would be to merge most threads where Dev responses are expected into one single thread; If anyone other than a Dev tries to answer to questions/suggestions given there AND the answer is incorrect, then that person gets tempabanned to learn to only speak when spoken to.
Beyond this, there should be one place for other mod-related discussion between users, and only experienced users would be allowed to start threads there.
There should be only one Announcement / Statements thread (“READ THIS EVERYTIME YOU VISIT!”), and should not be open to discussion.

In case of special events, Damage Control statements should be additionally linked to from the top of the page, with a high-contrast link.

Um, no. It’s not the moderators fault that people can’t read simple instructions.

I much prefer transparent moderation. And if a thread that is lock serves as an example of an unacceptable thread then so much the better. Oh, and threads that are deemed offensive DO get moved into a mods only forum.

Foul languages, oh boo fucking ho. And plenty of deletes and temp bans happen. I don’t think there are any on at the moment but there’s usually several perfectly visible in ‘Banned Personnel Log’.

Again, that DOES happen when its deemed necessary.

I don’t get this so I can’t comment.

Oh, and I don’t know if it’s just me but I find directing your email to ‘Victoria’ a little creepy. You’re not her friend and if it was something she wanted to go by it would be her forum name. Then again, she’s not complained so it’s probably just me.

Flatline, just a little response: Victoria has put her name as her avatar. She’s advertising her name, so I use it. I find it better than to address her as Catz Eyes 93.

Call me Catz, call me Victoria. Either is fine and I am ok with it. But thank you for having my best interest at heart.

Mystic, your suggestions have all been tried already and they don’t work. I am unsure how long you have been around these parts, but I have been here for 6 years and can attest to what works on this forum or and what doesn’t.

Sorry.

But thanks for playing!

Don’t know if this has been quoted or whether the information has pretty much been summed up, but this rounded it all up nicely for me:

They need to work another 2 years at this tempo to take full advantage of Source. (there’s massive inconsistency even in their official media releases)
By that time Source engine will die just like every other game engine that’s not updated and will take BM with it…

Half Life is classic, Black Mesa is a mod, developers should know both of them aren’t affected by time in the same way.
I’m not happy about it, but I think BM entered event horizon and when it finally get’s out original HL would be much better…

That doesn’t even make any sense; if we had to work 2 years to take full advantage of Source then why would the engine be dead at that point? If time has proven anything it’s that Valve has continued to update their engine and tools; if you disagree with me, compare the Source engine mod support upon HL2’s release to the current system we have now.

oh hai now that is kewl!

Just lurking around the edges I have seen this team make some awesome decisions with the tools given to them, and all with minimal hic-cups to the timeline.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
