My “language” is the dictionary.
Guess what? They found a new humanoid creature. Looks like we were animal after all.
You’ll have to be a little more specific than that.
Huh, fascinating.
And what is so surprising about that? Everybody know that many years in the past there were four humanoid species: Humans, Hobbits, Elfs and Dwarfs! :hmph:
Just one more piece of evidence for evolution and our part in it.
Hm yeah, Neanderthals could be dwarves, the floriensis could be the hobbits, and this new species could be the elves!
There has always been a lot of confusion and debate over what it really means to be agnostic. However, I think more people are leaning toward this definition:
One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
So then agnosticism and gnosticism answer a completely different question than theist and atheist. You can be an agnostic theist. In fact I would bet at least 80% of all theists are also agnostic.
These correspond to the two questions:
Do you think it is possible to KNOW without a doubt that a god(s) exist or not?
If yes, you are gnostic (and also an idiot). If no, then you are agnostic.
and the other question is:
Do you BELIEVE that a god or gods exist?
so in short:
(agnosticism/gnosticism) - answers what we can KNOW.
(theism/atheism) - answers what a person BELIEVES.
I myself am an agnostic atheist. I know that it is impossible for us to prove whether or not a supernatural being exists. BUT, I believe that there is no god(s).
two completely different things.
and an agnostic theist for example would be someone who does believe in god, but admits that it is impossible to know for sure.
the Gnostic theists are the scary ones that you have to watch out for
Don’t forget the plain 'ol deists.
This isn’t the thread for them.
He was listing various view on religion. I added another one. Is he in the wrong for listing agnostics, theists and gnostics?
How many words like that are there?
Agnostics
Gnostics
Nostics
Ostics
Stics
Tics
Ics

S
I was referencing the title of the thread.
I know, hence why I asked why he wasn’t in the wrong.
Then why were you asking?
this should help people

Instead of “weak” and “strong” it should say “sensible” and “pig-headed”.
maybe…
FFS, you can’t have a “gnostic atheist.” Only a fool thoroughly knows there is no god, a smart person accepts the possibilty but disagrees due to lack of evidence.
You can have a gnostic anything, but it’d just be another term for “moron”.
