Hi!
Stormseeker be trollin :3
Has anyone mentioned the dopefish found in this screen?:
https://i.imgur.com/iEC7ih.jpg
Itās a nod to Commander Keen 4 (great seriesātotally old school but if you get a chance, play it, especially āKeen Dreamsā and āSecret of the Oracleā) and is found throughout a lot of games. It could just be Stormās nod to the dopefishāQE is his level after all, and anyone aware of the dopefish probably WOULD include it since it, once again, is found in a lot of gamesāand entirely irrelevant but worth a look, anyway.
Thereās also chemical formulas for THC and I think meth on that whiteboard; if you can find out how that fits into the ARG, then by all means, do so.
Good point. Guess Iām just kind of poking around looking for anything related.
Iāll keep my posts to a minimum till the next breakthroughāguess I have been kind of posting about everything. Sorry 'bout that.
I thought the whole dopefish thing was just a regular easter egg, rather than something directly ARG related.
Thatās becoming a big problem with this ARG; itās getting really hard to tell whatās a clue and whatās an easter egg.
Thatās such a shame that this ARG didnāt showed a lot of progress since some times =/
I would gladly help you guys, but as I have no special skills that would be useful to youā¦
And I must say, since Iām one of the subs translaters, Iāve seen a lot of text from the game and I noclipped a lot, but I didnāt see anything new =/
Anyway, you all have my support, and I hope that whatever this ARG leads to, it will be worth it! It would be amazing if it was in some way related to both Valve and the Black Mesa team!
Itās not meth, but youāre close. Itās Dopamine. Thereās THC and Dopamine on that board, and on the calendars thereās a molecule for Caffeine.
Interestingā¦
And his profile says āLately I have been shot in the head by HECU in Black Mesa. As far as they know.ā
ā¦as far as we know, eh?
If youāre referring to āBarneyā, I think youāre over thinking this and itās just a coincidence.
We all pretty much figured that big code was legit, but at least this 100% confirms it.
I donāt suppose anyone caught what that said before Storm edited it? Eh?
Yeah I did; the edits are amusing rather than actually revealing.
THANK YOU
I knew I recognized that fish, but I couldnāt place it! Commander Keen was a great series.
it was in quake 1 as an easter egg that players could find in a well
That was easy.
I suppose, since Iāve been formally introduced, I should say hi instead of lurking at the bottom of the page. Hello!
Iām Paul Bottomley (for my sins in a past life, no doubt), a friend of Chrisās, and was once shot in the head for science. I was planning to create some kind of short story about how āIā survived the BM incident through the clever use of [cloning]. It wouldnāt have been related in any meaningful way to Stormseekers [magnum opus].
But frankly, Iām just too tired. And it probably would detract somewhat from what Stormseeker has created for everyone - about which, I hasten to add, I know as much (less than, in fact) as anyone here. So, yeah, let it be known that Bottomley is alive and continuing his very ethical and worthy research in a major [American city].
Pretty sure thatās how it went
mine is still better.
IIRC it was actually something like:
EDIT: ninjaād
Hahahaāit is definitely more ARG-specific, Iāll give you that
now itās even betterā¦ well guys this officially states Iām not usefull in helping to this ARG
I hope nobody things me too presumptuous making a little sum-up post.
In this Iām trying to piece together what IS relevant, what MIGHT BE and what MIGHT NOT be.
What we know for sure:
This is an ARG [ref, ref, ref]
The first clue - pigpen cypher including CODE A
So taking this at face value we have to look for three other codes - B C and D.
This leads directly to:
The terminal page - accessed after ādoing konamiā - entering the ākonami codeā on stormseekerās site
The upper case letters in this spell out āDR HORNā - a reference to Chris Horn, or Stormseeker, who is an in game character with an office in Lab D in the Questionable Ethics chapter. Of these letters only D O R and N are encoded but whether that means anything or not is unknown.
Code C
The second specifically identified code -
hidden among the sound files, and triggerable in game by activating a radio in a hidden room beneath the stairs leading to Lab D (after the level transition to Lab D, accessible only be noclip) is an sstv scan image - https://i.imgur.com/ImDhO.png
Other codes
At least four other codes have been found in the game, though how related they are to this ARG remains to be seen.
1 - Canteen code
There are 3 āAbstract Paintingsā the canteen seating area of Questionable Ethics, and together they form a numeric code - 0851.
This is assumed to be another of the four codes referenced in the pigpen cypher but it isnāt known if that is the case.
2 - Binary Jenn0_Bing code
A computer screen visible in many parts of the game has some binary on it which translates into ālolā āJENN0_BINGā.
Jenn0_Bing is a dev, who worked on some of the QE chapter, and seems to have worked on some of the files related to this ARG, but otherwise this seems unrelated.
3 - Chain of Death Cipher
In Anomalous Materials a whiteboardhas this code on it. https://www.nku.edu/~christensen/section%205%20symbols.pdf (see page 25)
Translates to the Latin phrase: lapis philosophorum In English: āThe Philosopherās Stoneā.
Whether this is related to the ARG or not remains to be seen; it could be a separate easter egg reference to the Xen crystals.
4 - The Bottomley Message
In the main laser room in Lab D of Questionable Ethics this code is stuck to a whiteboard.
Whether this code is even related to the ARG hasnāt really been proved, but it is assumed that this is the final code.
Assumptions and Guesses - things we donāt know & my thoughts
It is assumed that the cafeteria code is one of the 4 codes referenced in the pigpen cypher.
It is assumed that the Bottomley message is either Code D or the final message weāre working to decode. Alas, we donāt know.
The coin (which looks to be a nickel) and word āvictorā in the sstv image appears to be an oblique reference to the VIC cypher.
It is therefore expected that the Bottomley message is encoded using the VIC cypher, but currently we do not have enough information to decode it. We need a keyphrase of at least 20 characters, an index of 16 or under, and a date (or something that would work in place of a date). The checkerboard index might also not be the same as the online decoders weāve been using.
The chain of death cypher was thought to point us to a keyphrase āTHEPHILOSOPHERSSTONEā but weāve had no luck working with that.
āThe Pizza is a Lieā, pizza, etc may not be directly related to the ARG, nor might Dr. Horn, because āDr Hornā and pizza were not really referenced directly in any of the clues until AFTER we started talking about Dr. Horn and pizza. The jokes about pizza and hidden pizzas could be red herrings, or a separate unrelated easter egg. EDIT - actually Dr Horn is the artist in the qecode sound.
The QE facility seems to be where most of the direct clues are; clues in other chapters seem to point us to the QE facility, but we donāt know for sure.
The Dr Horn shack in Surface Tension may be linked, may not be. (To be honest I worry that the whole ARG may have been intended to tell us how to get here.)
Song lyrics for Wreak Havoc by Angelspit might be relevant, considering they appear on some screens and the VIC cypher has a history of being used with song lyrics as pass keys, but again weāve had no luck with that.
The latin phrase āSuperbus via Inscientiaeā appears on the QE lab logo, and has also been thought of as a possible keyphrase, but itās in HL1 so has been thought to not be relevant.
Many possible dates have been tried, including the release dates of things like half life, half life 2, black mesa, the Angelspit album containing Wreak Havoc.
There is no portrait of Dr Stone, the fourth founder - nor does he seem to have a desk, or an office.
The point Iām trying to make here is that any one of these assumptions could prove to be wrong
Maybe Dr Stone has an office in office complex or AM.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valveās Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
