Anime/Manga Thread

Yeah, Baccano! is pretty awesome.

Action and/or Drama and Relatively Positive Ending: Darker than Black.

Well I just finished Welcome to the NHK. The earlier parts of the series are 10/10, but the last side-arc is really meh in my opinion and takes away way too much time from the main character and love interest.

Also, I use a program called windows dreamscene (look it up, it’s easy to get a hold of) that lets me set videos as desktop wallpapers. I’ve looped a couple animations from the anime Nichijou but I’m looking for more from other series. If you see an animation in a show that looks short, easily loopable, and has limited movement (too much movement makes a distracting desktop), I would enormously appreciate it if you posted the series, episode, and timestamp here. If I have the anime and I like the clip I’ll loop it and post a copy here for all of us to use.

Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari are two series I’d especially like to make some loops of. They have gorgeous animation.

Here’s my shitty tumblr that I never use with a post of the wallpapers I’ve already made because I’m too lazy to copy-paste the individual links/pictures here.

Neato, just tried it out. I would like to see some from Trigun but they probably wouldn’t look that great since the show wasn’t in widescreen…although the movie that came out recently was, so maybe I’ll look through that for a good clip.

Aside from that, Haruhi has some pretty nice clips of scenery, unfortunately most of them are during pans so they probably wouldn’t look so great looped. The opening shot of season 1 episode 6 might work though, it was all I could find in a quick run through.

If you like backgrounds you would dig Aku No Hana.

OH GOD MAN JUST FROM THAT OFF HAND COMMENT I DECIDED TO TRY IT AND OH GOD WHAT IS THIS ANIME IT’S SO DISTURBING BUT I JUST KEEP WATCHING. (on ep 3 atm, and shit’s really weird so far)

EDIT: Episode 4 now, oh jesus man I can’t handle this shit.

Its pretty good shit.

Oh, it’s that Nakamura Sawa series. Everyone and their mum seems to be obsessed with Sawa, so I thought I’d have a look at that eventually.

I’ve been watching Haruhi Suzumiya because everyone says I need to. I did season one last week. My internet was down for most of the day today, so I started season two. I watched all of Endless Eight in one sitting. Those producers had some balls on them to pull that.

No kidding. As much as I respect them for it (especially the animators, who made each episode uniquely), I really wish they had just spent a max of 4 episodes on Endless Eight. With season 2 already being a half season, it made it feel like very little happened that season. At least the movie was really good.

I couldn’t stand Suzumiya. It’s of that genre I hate where it’s basically sci-fi except instead of everything revolving around science it all revolves around theology. Theo-fi. Which is basically theology, just not taking itself seriously. Makes for a painfully pretentious and silly plot. Then again, that’s just my blatantly subjective thoughts on the matter. However, if you are into theo-fi, try Sasami-san@Ganbaranai, it’s another series I quit for the same reason.

Started Stand Alone Complex. Alright so far. Not too much to say about it yet, feels fairly generic actiony, I’m hoping the plot/characters develop into something a little deeper/more interesting.

I really liked Stand Alone Complex. The way the series delves into philosophical elements and the political ramifications of the goings on give it a very interesting vibe. It isn’t to everyone’s tastes, though.

UN-GO. It’s sort of like a buddy-cop mystery show, except instead of a respected veteran and a young cop playing fast and loose with the law, it’s a respected veteran and a demon who feeds on people’s guilt. Also, when the demon feeds, it turns into a woman with huge hair and her tits hanging out all over the place. (Anime, folks.)

It’s bizarre, but I like it.

Technically that’s only one faction’s interpretation. No one really knows who or what Haruhi is, or [color=’#151515’]if it’s even Haruhi and not Kyon. There is some sort of singular power surrounding her but it’s not clear what it is yet. Though I understand where you’re coming from and why it might not appeal to you.

I think I’m gonna try out Attack on Titan, if only to understand what’s going on on the interwebs these days.

EDIT: Watched the first six episodes in a row. Just about when I thought I had it figured out it hits with a huge curveball (much like [color=’#151515’]Gurren Lagann and Madoka), and turns out to be much darker and more messed up than even the first episode suggested. It’s not perfect, it’s sometimes just more sick than moving, and the animation isn’t super top notch, but overall it’s quite engaging. I’m definitely interested in this one. So far, to me it feels like a cross between the horror of The Walking Dead and the story of Gurren Lagann.

EDIT 2: Caught up on the rest of it. I’m really liking it so far, got a lot of action and mystery going on, though it gets a little heavy on the “inspirational” moments occasionally.

Attack on Titan anime is still awesome although I got a little disheartened learning that the manga is still going and in it [color=’#151515’]they haven’t even reached the basement yet and there are still at least one or two arcs to finish already, meaning this is going to be a multi-season show. I hadn’t known that before and now it’s a little disappointing knowing that answers are going to be that far off. I just hope the writer knows where it’s all going and this series doesn’t turn into another Lost. I’m all for waiting if it means a lot more of the same show and it doesn’t deteriorate into a bunch of nonsense.

While waiting between episodes, I figured I’d check out some other series since I got a crunchyroll account. I started Gargantia on the Verduous Planet today. The idea sounds quite formulaic but so far interesting characters and good writing have prevented it from being very cliche. I’m liking it a lot so far.

Lol, I forgot about that show. I lost interest in it around ep 8 and should just finish it some time, Gargantia not Attack on Titan.

Watched Angel Beats recently. Essentially, this guy dies and shows up at a school where everyone else is dead, and most of them are fighting the student body president because if they don’t, she’ll cause them to get ‘obliterated’ (Read: Reincarnated into who-knows-what)

It’s quite different.

I think I’ve heard of a game like that.

Quite alot of games use that concept I believe

One of my favourite

Its a good one for sure.
