I’ll post a short response simply because you actually took the time to word your sentences correctly and did not try to offend the developers and community with profanity and the like.
While I agree with the usual statements of “the developers don’t owe us anything”, “they’re busy working on the mod so they don’t have time to make trailers and edit screenshots”, etc., there are some things that I think should be done.
1] Remove the twitter from the main page. Hubi is not a mod developer IMO, and I can’t imagine it would take too long to remove it. Plus, while he may not get paid for his work on the website, it is Hubicorn’s responsibility as a web administrator to work on these kinds of things IMO.
2] Give us the break in silence. I may have missed a statement recently, but I distinctly remember a developer stating that there would be a break in silence of some sort by the end of the year. Sure, they don’t owe us anything, but if you say you will do something like a break in silence, at the very least make a thread apologizing that there was no break in silence or something… as of today, I haven’t seen any mention of it, and its almost a week into 2011.
3] Add on to the main page that while developers won’t be releasing official updates too often, there is often media added into the Wiki, and every so often a post is made by a developer reflecting on some aspect of the mod’s progress in the forums. While these may be well known to the regulars here and can be easily found out by reading any of the countless “updates pl0x” threads here, it can’t hurt to put it in big bold letters on the front page.
Whether or not anybody reads this or cares, I think that the above statements need to be taken into consideration. Also, don’t read this post as hateful or offensive, I have enormous respect for the amount of work and effort put in by all of Black Mesa’s “staff”, but I can’t think of a single reason why some of the above can’t be done.
I never said the movie was dead, I was talking about if the mod was dead. the devs (as far as I can tell) were never a bunch of angry, pig headed, anti-semitic wanabee IRA staff abusing proto dictators that insulted their funders so many times they get dropped from their distributor and fail to make a DIME on what should have been an incredibly successful first project. The devs have no funders. Versions of the game have been shown to media outlets. updates, though small have shown up in the wiki.
This is why your comparison fails.

I turned off images to be safe, That individual needs a permanent ban from this site and IP checked. Because children can visit this site, they can be reported so its a good thing they removed it fast.
P.S. I checked the ban list it looks like he got banned, now lets hope its permanent, just because of 1700 post shouldn’t disqualify him from permanent ban.
Children have no place coming to this forum anyway.
I check back here often and there are some times when the devs haven’t been much different then trolls. Though they’re far better then the regular member that much is true. I’m not going to go digging for proof because if you’re here enough you’ll see it. I’m just saying that if the community keeps up like this it wont survive.

While I agree on children should not be present, we all know they do find their way into gaming forums, this is a game forum and this is not the section for trash talk etc. Also if someone happens to be at work and this happened they can be fired for Porn.

I do agree with you, Lord of Swamp, if this community keeps heading in this direction without some correction it will die. A similar thing happened a long time ago with another forum, it descended to chaos, filth etc. until the forum was closed.

With a big community and a large fan base it might not be that hard to find someone (PR guy) who has the time to get some information out to the community from time to time. So, I clearly don’t buy this argument. This is not a matter of lacking time but a matter of not wanting to release anything. Take a look at websites like moddb, 1000s of mods and indie games that can get news out on a regular basis, I’m sure the Black Mesa team could do it too. I mean, there’s time to update a ban list, ironically that’s the only place in the website that gets updated.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the BM team should keep the community and fans informed, they do what they want! I just think they don’t deserve all the attention they got in the past and still get today. Many mod and indie teams take a lot of time and put a lot of effort in getting some exposure and getting their community informed (and yes they are hard at work too!), they deserve the attention BM has been getting!
The only reason why BM gets all the attention is because of the fame Half Life got, not because the remake is good (we don’t know), not because this team works harder than other teams, and not because they are good for their community.
So to all those fans and lurkers who look at this forums hoping to find some information: The BM team is not to blame, you are! Go look at all those other great mod and indie projects, who do release information and appreciate the enthusiasm of fans, support those projects!
