I hope I’m the first one to say this but, we’re getting Duke Nukem Forever before Episode 3. I’ll let that sink in for a bit.

I didn’t know lol was a statement

Yes, the fact you “didn’t know lol” was indeed a statement.
However, I don’t believe that “lol” is a statement.

DN:F: 12 years. EP. 3: 3 years.

Key difference.

Props for being a grammar nazi, Sticky

No full stop at the end of your sentence.

Edit: Wrong thread, sorry.

DNF looked awesome in 2001. The trailer they had for the game was epic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDlB2P1leRM
It looked like the game would have kicked ass AND chewed bubble gum if it came out then.
I have the bad feeling that this next gen duke isn’t going to be anything like that trailer.

I know even though the trailer looks cool, doesn’t mean that it would have been good - but it at least looked like the devs were going in a good direction there. I have to see more about the current one to really tell though.

And whats with so much hate for the older games? They aren’t amazing games by today’s standards for sure, but many of them aren’t overrated. And a game like quake in regards to multiplayer certainly isn’t outdated. The MP is just a different kind of play, then shooters such as modern warfare or BC2 and such. And things like CTF, team fortress, and other team oriented modes came from Quake through mods, and eventually UT through including most of them as gamemodes. (my favorite thing about Threewave CTF is the grappling hook, and I haven’t seen much else use it aside from Quake II Threewave)

And the single player might have a story about as thick as a nickle, but something it does have that i find many games lacking is the creatures and weapons of the game are all are used in ways that varies the gameplay. Some creatures are used to wear the players armor down, while others are meant to make him use up ammo, and some are meant to slow him down, etc. It all comes together to create gameplay that is more varied and interesting, causing the player to modify his tactics for different encounters, and those monsters come together with unconventional weaponry and each weapon being suited for certain encounters, making the gameplay more then just that of a shooting fest. In games where your enemies go down quick this is a problem because even though the games have more realistic weaponry and adversaries, they lose a certain element to the gameplay that you can’t really get back. Half-life also suffers from this a little, mainly because the real difference between quake and hl is that the weapons are mostly designed around more power as you progress, with the exception of scripted armaments such as the bow used for the Ichthyosaur, and obvious tactical choices such as shotgun for Close Range, pistols and smgs for med and sniper (or in this case, a different pistol and a bow) for long.

None of this makes hl, or any other game for that matter bad, not by any means, but when used right, it just makes some (not all) older games (and a very few newer ones) better than you’d expect.

I’m done ranting, so yeah, new duke, might be good, no more legend status, blah blah.

too short; didnt read

I had the feeling that they go where in the right direction with duke4 in 2001.
The things I’ve seen lately is not something like the old trailer, too bad…I guess.

I played the original DN’s on the PC when they came out. I loved them.

But I really hope you all realize this will be nothing like the classic sidescroller we all loved. I’d be more stoked about a re-release of the original games wioth remastered sound and sprites or some shit.

It’s not meant to be, its meant to be like Duke Nukem 3D the classic shooter they all love.
